Something else to be excited about on May 16th! Harper Collins is re-releasing the audiobooks for the QT series in digital format and CD! The list price for the audio file is $21.99 for TT and CoK but $24.99 for all the other books and the CDs look like they are going to be $39.99 per book. Who knows if those listed prices are accurate. We shall see...

They will also be available on Audible, if you have that. It looks like the audiobook for Thick as Thieves will also be released on May 16, so we won't have to wait!

Previously, the audiobooks were narrated by Jeff Woodman, but I'm guessing he maybe isn't available anymore? The narrator is now listed as Steve West. He is listed as the narrator for all five books. I don't think that's a mistake, since I also found him listed as the narrator on the Barnes and Noble site, and he recently tweeted about recording all the books. He is a UK actor, who has narrated over 150 books and has eleven voice awards! You can listen to clips of him narrating on his website.

Guys! We're getting brand new versions of the audiobooks! I'm so excited to listen to Thick as Thieves!

PS: Hopefully, he does a better Eddisian accent. XD Sorry, Jeff Woodman...I loved your narrations too!

PSS: More excuses to give MWT my money. Yay!

We're getting very close to the release of Thick as Thieves (only a matter of weeks!), so I thought it was probably time to discuss a plan to discuss. I've gone over the A Conspiracy of Kings tag, and was reminded that we broke discussions of the book down to a select number of chapters per post, meaning a handful of posts went live the day the book was released. Each one was devoted to four chapters or so.

The cons of the multi-post method-
Discussions can get a bit unwieldy when spread across many different windows.
If you want to discuss aspects of the books as a whole, there can be some confusion about where you should post.
It can get tedious to check all the different posts.

No worrying about spoilers for later on in the book if you want to share your thoughts as you read.

An alternative would be to have one post in which I could place comment threads that everyone could reply to if discussing individual chapters. There's onlythirteen
chapters in the new book, so one comment thread per chapter? If you want to discuss the book as a whole, you can just reply to the post itself.

To summarize, the cons of this single post method would be-
Spoilers for the whole book in one post. (However, you should be able to avoid them by not scrolling down the whole way.)

Better organized discussions.
You can break your thoughts down by chapter without having to load many different windows or just discuss as a whole

If you're planning to use Sounis to discuss the book, you're welcome to share any ideas on the matter. If everyone is planning to finish the book before they start discussing it online, the cons of a single post would be irrelevant. You can, of course, still create a post of your own to dicuss specific aspects of the book, ask questions, or post reviews.

Right now, I'm eyeing May 28th at the usual time for our first post-TaT Conspiracy Room chat to discuss the book. That should give most reprobates enough time to get a copy and finish it. If your copy is arriving later than that but you'd like to participate in a chat, let me know when you think you'll have the book and will be done reading it. Maybe another chat in June or July would be good for anyone waiting on their copy from the public library or slow Amazon shipping?

If you have an arc and would like to start discussing now, I do have a locked post set up on my personal journal called the Jamey Dodgy Society for anyone wanting to talk about the book now. Simply friend me and drop me a comment or a PM so I know to add you. Livejournal is not always emailing me when someone friends me. (bashes LJ) I will unlock that post on May 16th and everyone can respond to any discussions on the the JDS thread.

Sounis's spoiler policies are HERE and basically ask that all spoilers for new books be hidden under an LJ-cut with a spoiler warning till at least a month after the book comes out.

Epic Read posted a couple of beautiful edits of the Thick as Thieves cover with some great quotes from the book. Check them out under the cut below. Let me know if I missed any!

Nothing too spoilery, but if you don't want to see anything about the book before it comes out, cover your ears.

Check out the new Epic Reads booktrailer for QT if you haven't seen it yet. Does anyone have any new speculations about the book?

"That waistband doesn't go with that coat," said the queen.

"As you have already noted, I was late." Eugenides bent his head to look at his waist. His coat was yellow, and so was the waistband, but the shades were not the same. "My attendants have triumphed this morning in their quest to make me look foolish. [...] No doubt in time their taste will improve."

"Perhaps if you did not order your clothes in colors that would suit a canary?"

(Would you believe that, prior to today, I'd never eaten a peep before?! The things I'll do to win an ARC of Thick as Thieves...)

This is the final week for The Queen of Attolia!

QoA Section One
QoA Section Two
QoA Section Three

Thanks to the leads and everyone who has participated in the read-along so far. You're all doing a great job!

Next week is a break week, which will give anyone who's fallen behind on their reading or discussing time to catch up. Therefor this Sunday, March 19th, there will be a live chat held in the Conspiracy Room, where we can further dicuss QoA or speculate about TaT or just squee randomly.

The chat will start at...

5pm Pacific Time
6pm Mountain Time
7pm Central Time
8pm Eastern Time

If your timezone does not appear here, please check the World Clock.

The password for the Conspiracy Room is HERE. You must be a member of the community to use the chat room. This is the first of three pre-release chats. The others will be held at the same time April 16th and May 14th. I will also have to schedule a few post-release Conspiracy Room chats for discussing TaT closer to the release date.

The read-along will continue March 26th with KoA section one (chapters 1-5) lead by [livejournal.com profile] live_momma. If you're just joining us, the read-along schedule is HERE.

Spread the word!

“I could run away and make myself a free man.”
“Oh, I’d find you.”
-The Queen of Attolia

I asked our authoress if it was okay for me to write a spoiler free review, and she gleefully gave me permission to “torture” you all! Thank you so much, Megan! XD

Now, for the real trick… How to review a QT book without giving anything away. This is a no spoiler review as it says on the tin. I’m sworn to secrecy.

However, I will be talking openly about the information revealed in the summaries published online (I have to have something to work with), so if you don’t want to know even that about the new book, beware of small spoilers. I wrote this to be as general as possible and nothing specific is revealed.

Well, using my very limited supply of readily available Lego

here is my entry :)

King of Legottolia
KoA, Prologue. "On the palace wall, a young guard on duty looked out over the town..."

Costis standing to attention at those crenellations he gets to think about a lot more later in the book ;)

Yes, I know. You've never seen anything less like an Attolian guard? This may be true, but this is a bona fide Legoland Guardsman in full uniform, purchased from the original Legoland in Billund, Denmark. He cost about 50 kroner, and used to be a keyring (that's what the knob on the top of his head is!)
So, so. I did my best. Of course, if Megan had really meant it when she said "elephant"...

Today, MWT posted on her tumblr feed: "The Thief was published twenty years, four months, and 23 days ago. Twenty years, four month and *21* days ago, people started asking me for a map. The wait is almost over. My editor says she is sending it to me tomorrow and I will post it here."

Later in the day, she posted the image below. Is this the map we've been waiting for (It is not completely clear to me)? It looks AH-MAYZ-ING.

Artist: Maxime Plasse

So, the inscription on the side says (to the best of my understanding), "This map of Eddis, Attolia, and Sounis was prepared for Her Highness Gitta Kingsdaughter by her tutor, Tykus Namikus for her reference while reading the books of the Queen's Thief."

So....if this IS the official map...who is Gitta? Royalty, obviously, but from which family/country? DISCUSS.

From MWT's Tumblr:

Somebody in a message a while back referred to my “No Spoilers” policy and seeing Seanan McGuire’s post reminded me of it.  I want to clarify–I don’t have a No Spoilers Policy.  I have a Not Telling policy.

I’m Not Telling what’s in the next book.

I’m Not Telling why something was in the last book.

I am Not Telling what things mean.

I am Not Telling anything I haven’t already put on the page.

What I hope is  …  I am Not Telling You What to Think.

This isn’t an easy policy to stick to. I’m always tempted to tell people what I think (about anything, really, don’t let me get started) and I do lapse, especially in small group settings that involve too much caffeine or in some cases, alcohol, and some day when readers have had time to make up their own minds, I expect I’ll loosen up about this. (Like Ray Bradbury, in 40 years I am going to tell you that The Thief was really all about the evils of television.)  I don’t have this policy because it’s the moral high ground.  It’s a personal thing.  I like to make up my own mind about what I read– I want to offer my readers the same space.  I never want something I say to get in the way of you creating the story you want in your own head.

Okay, owing to the fact that I haven't drawn for years, this is a bit last minute, but here I am!

Dear Megan,

I should NOT have an ARC.

1. I've only been waiting for less than two years :)

2. Owing to the joys of time zones, I will be getting my copy of Thick as Thieves at least five hours before the rest of the reprobates. Which will (Please note, reprobates!) be plenty of time for me to read it and get on here to gloat at the rest of them ;P

Therefore, I don't need the ARC. Please, pick someone else instead. But this doesn't mean I'm going to pass up on the fun of doing clunky art ;) So, as a sort of thank you...

1. Landscape.

My very favourite of all the stories of the Gods!

2. Other Art.

Thank you! I had great fun doing these!

Question: does this make the wait better, or worse? !!!
Megan, can you hurry them up a little before all we reprobates expire of old age and much longing?!

The long awaited transcript from the chat we had on the 16th. Sorry, this took so long! As I was copying it, Chatzy added many lines of computer coding for some reason. I had to tediously go back through hours of chat log and delete all of that, which is why this took so long. Curse you, Chatzy!

In which...

We fangirl Thick As Thieves.

Reprobates overexcitedly ask questions at the same time that do not get answered.

We fail at explaning the Overdrive app.

YA vs. Middle Grade

Bookish talks about her interview with MWT.

Lady Jane devours every single last muffin!

Please, remember that this was a SPOILER chat, so if you don't want to know anything about the new book other then the cover and release date, cover your ears.

Even LJ deemed this too long! We will have to have a chat again sometime soon.

*Fixed link issue. The internet made it vanish on me. XD

When your favorite series doesn't have any merchandise to hoard...

My UK editions arrived in the mail today. At last, I have them all! For now...

Well, my Saturday's pretty well planned out, meaning I'm likely to just stand in front of my bookshelves, admiring this collection for hours.

Less than 200 days to go before we can get our hands on the next book!
[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com
There will be a chat starting shortly to discuss the new book and covers for the following US timezones.

5pm Pacific Time
6pm Mountain Time
7pm Central Time
8pm Eastern Time

If your timezone does not appear here, check the World Clock.

The chat is being hosted in the Conspiracy Room. The password is HERE. You must be a memeber of the community to use the Conspiracy Room.

This wil be a SPOILER chat, as I did not receive any objections to discussing the information revealed in the book jacket summary that was recently released. The summary reveals which character the book is going to be about and a few sentences describe the plot. So, if you do not want to know anything about the book other then the title and cover, please cover your ears.

Have fun, everyone!

PS: A transcript will be posted later, so remember anything you say can be used to tease you later.

I haven't made any crack in a long while, so it's time re-earn my Sounis court title. I'm bringing court titles back!

I've had this idea for awhile now, but I didn't feel it would be nice to Megan while we were still waiting for news of book 5. Now that we have a release date for "Thick As Thieves," I decided it's time to laugh at all that trauma now behind us.

The following is based on a true story. Sorry, Megan... I'm not complaining. I promise! We love you!

Warning: Picture and GIF heavy, so if you have a slow computer or internet, be careful.

Very Image Heavy - May Break Your Computer )

Any funny waiting for book five stories you'd like to share? What did you do to celebrate the annoucement of Thick as Thieves?

In 2009 I got a new license plate for my car.

no title

Here's how it looks today:

I feel like this illustrates it perfectly.

Also...it only took seven years and changing career paths to work in a library, but someone FINALLY recognized these and said, "Hey, is that from 'The Thief'?" They were probably quite started from my response, which was to throw my arms wide and my head back, shouting, "FINALLLYYYY!!!!"

Also...perhaps it's time to order replacement plates.

Riding on the coatails of all the excitement for the new book, would anyone like to have a chat in the Conspiracy Room to fangirl discuss the new book and cover art?

October 16th, next Sunday night at 7pm Central Time sound good? For other USA timezones that would be...

5pm Pacific Time
6pm Mountain Time
7pm Central Time

8pm Eastern Time

Thoughts? Anyone interested?

Do you guys want a spoiler free chat or for the information revealed in the "Thick as Thieves" book jacket summary to be fair game? In Sounis, we define spoilers as anything about the book other than the title, cover, and release date.

The spoiler cut below informs you what the book jacket summary could spoil, so you can make an informed decision. No specifics, names, or details are mentioned.

The book summary reveals which character the book is going to be about and a few sentences describe the plot.
