Hey everyone! I'm new (posted in the intro meme below), and decided I'd post the one, only, and thoroughly satisfying contents of e-mail communication I've ever had with our beloved Megan Whalen Turner.

So-- background:
- I have been a rabid fan of QoA since I read it a couple of years ago.
- I re-read it for literally the 6th time in March of 2005, and then sent off an e-mail to whichever publishing company that edited/printed QoA.

I basically did the typical-- introduced myself, said I was not YA, but I loved the book. Raved about the richness of the characters' histories, the court intrigues, the politics of marriage and war, the complexity of language and plot. I then said that there were so many unanswered questions-- what would happen with the Medes, how the Attolians would/wouldn't accept Gen, how marriage would actually work between those two. In other words, "I <3 Queen of Attolia, and won't you please write a new book to save me from dying of curiosity?"

The e-mail apparently got read, and the editor got back to me along the lines of-- read your e-mail, sent it to MWT.

MWT's response (finally! geez, enough build-up, already?) on March 30, 2005:

Hello [insert my name here],

[Insert company person's name here] forwarded your message to me and I enjoyed it very much. I am
happy to hear you wondering out loud how Eugenides and Attolia will get
along and how the Attolians will feel about their new king. The sequel
to THE THIEF and THE QUEEN OF ATTOLIA will be coming out from
Greenwillow in 2006. I am just finishing it in the next couple of
weeks, assuming the river doesn't rise. I hope you like it.

So, because of this e-mail, I've been counting down for nearly a year until KoA came out. I read it this Wed in 2.5 hours (almost overslept for work), and am ambivalent.

Oh no, don't get me wrong-- I loved KoA. MWT answered all those questions I had, and even introduced new storylines (Costis, the Guards, etc.). My happiness with the book is balanced out equally by the realization that dagnabit! Now I have more questions again-- "I <3 KoA, and when will the next one come out?"

So excited to meet everyone! And thank you to that person on allscifi.com who pointed me here.

*waves* That was me who pointed you here, through my ruthless recruiting drive. Welcome!

What an excellent email! I know exactly how you feel, not least about KoA (which I'm still half-way through). I'm almost reluctant to finish it, because that'll mean settling down to another five years of waiting.

But hey, on the subject of questions, I'm starting up a thread soon where we'll be composing a letter to MWT, full of our own questions after reading KoA. We've received MWT's approval (see a few posts down for the email I got from her). I'll post more information on the thread in a few days about that.

In the meantime, welcome again.

Congrats on your email! It's so awesome that she takes the time to reply to us (and conversely, knows she has a rabid fanbase backing her XD)

So you've known about, and have been waiting a long time for, the book! It's funny, I wondered some time ago about another book, and one day thought if there was one, it would be called The King of Attolia, and did an online search. Nothing. A few days later I did it again, and MWT's website listed the new book. I was so excited.
