With all the excitement of Meg's Road Trip....
Just thought I'd ask/raise awareness of the Eugenides Sharing Gene, aka, How Have You Raised Attolian Awareness Today? (what a Tshirt slogan THAT is.)

For instance - our library offered little suggestion slips to all readers - you know, which books have you enjoyed recently?-type things. Your comments were then posted on a display case next to the book in question, so visitors could try out your favorites, too.

Well, three guesses what books were in MY top ten...Meg, my fave and awesome librarian (besides for sharing a name with a fave and awesome author, natch) bounced over to me the next time I was there to excitedly tell me that Thief, QoA and KoA were 'going like hotcakes'! I was thrilled. Gotta share the goodness around.

I also wrote to Sharyn November, editor of Firebird Books. I admit I must have sounded slightly mad, I was slavering so lavishly over the books, but one can a fan do? She was very sweet, she told me that "generally Meg's fans are omnivorous readers". Hear that, people? "omnivorous readers". Swweeeeeeeeeeeet. I feel omnivorous already.

I also heard that The Dresden Files had a whole "bookshelf club" - y'know, every time a fan saw a customer anywhere NEAR the books at Barnes & Nobles or Borders or whatever, they praised it to the skies until the poor hapless lucky new fan-to-be left the store with the book...

So, let's raise awareness! Let's wear little buttons (slogans, anyone), decorate our cars with bumper stickers (ditto), become gently aggressive bookshelf clubbers, enthuse to our librarians....

Every time I'm in a book store I make sure to pull Megan's books and turn them on the shelf so the pretty covers can catch someone's eye. I think the workers at the B&N near my house must have noticed by now :P

lol. We all are slightly mad. Actually, I'm one of Sharyn's teen readers because of The Thief. I was looking for mwt's email address and found Sharyn's and did her poll and became a teen reader and found all sorts of nice books! Yay! I asked her about mwt's books with Firebird and she said: 'oh god, i wish. the original hardcover publisher of megan's books is greenwillow, which is an imprint of harpercollins. i bought the paperback rights to her books before greenwillow became part of harper. the rights have now reverted to harper ...' In short, darn. (she is a member of sounis. LJ name sdn)

I've been poking the library I work at to get the books for almost 2 years.

I've been gushing about the books loads. *goes off to wreak havoc spread awareness*

Er, I finally got around to reading _King of Attolia_ now that it's attainable in paperback, and told [livejournal.com profile] matociquala / Elizabeth Bear that she ought to read them as well, and had this community pointed out to me by another commenter. So, not a whole lot. In my defence, I've been ill. Hi!

Thanks! I seem to be; at this point I'm just really tired most of the time. (I can't really recommend Lyme disease to anyone, particularly not if you were planning on doing anything for the next few weeks. On the other hand, the time off work did wonders for shortening my to-read list. :)

I've been obsessing about them to all my friends. I'm also trying to think of a good way to get my AP English teacher to read them. She saw all the books I was reading over the school year, (The Blue Sword, His Majesty's Dragon, and I Capture the Castle, to name a few) and every one of them she'd read and loved, and commented that I had good taste in books. Then I brought in The Thief, and she asked what I was reading, expecting another book she'd read and loved. She hadn't heard of it. I failed to rave about it, and the school year ended... Oh, the pain of lost opportunities.

Ha - yeah, I do this already... I love lurking in in the "youth" section and hijacking innocent children with the full set of Thief books in my arms... "I notice that you like Harry Potter - these books are just as engaging and interesting! You like Dostoevsky? What a coincidence! These books cover the same themes of revenge, inner conflict, and redemption! Like Judy Blume? Wonderful! These books have words, just like those!"

By the way, I'm new here - I've lurked on and off in this forum since it was started, but I'm not really a livejournal girl (xanga is my hunting ground) so I haven't been a regular. I don't really know livejournal etiquette, so I'm sorry if this is a rude way to appear in this forum... :-\ My only defense is that I read the Thief and had a crush on Eugenides before QoA was even written, so does that give me a Get Out of Jail Free card? :-)I'm an huge fan, though, and spent the years between QoA and KoA typing "Megan Whalen Turner" into Amazon.com to see when the next Gen moment would happen. I'm hoping to see her in Boston on the 4th - WOW - so we'll see...

Hope to be around for awhile yet!

Being sick is no fun, but more bearable if you can catch up on the TBR stack. Another cute icon, btw.

Welcome, and it's definitely not a rude way to appear. Sort of Gen-like, really, stealthily biding your time until you can score a major prize--Hamiathes gift or a visit with MWT or whatever. Please do stick around now, though.

Haha! I love it. Sounds like a good book advertizing tactic, I may have to employ it...

I think there was already a post with all (or, at least, most) of the books recommended in this community that I came across while I was looking around, before I started posting...

*chokes*

Do you mind if I steal that idea? I'm not quite sure what I'll do with it yet, but it sounds like a great forum signature... or maybe an animated icon...
