I think Guin's more or less summed it up.

Wait, you don't like the paintings of...who are all those people? Was there a glimpse of George Washington?

Thanks, peggy. :)

I would have watched the whole thing, but I died of boredom at around 0:40.

I appreciate the thought, I guess? But what is the point of it all? It isn't a book trailer, it isn't a review, it's just a very slow description of the book where the narrator reads words that are already on the screen in a voice that holds all the frenzied excitement of Ben Stein intoning "Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?"

Yep, almost died of boredom there too. I love love LOVE the picture of Empress Josephine for Attolia. So wrong!

The only interesting thing was the pronunciation choices. Eh-dis? Meh-de-an? Cows-tis?

I suppose the third is a matter of personal choice and the second a matter of pedantia, but the first - no, no, no. "You aren't even pronouncing the name of the country right. The people on the mountains call it Eeddis, not Eddis...it's their country. They ought to know the right name for it."

*winces at the pictures* I didn't watch it all the way through.

They could have least used finger puppets or something.

I think it proves that fans, generally, are not actors, video editors, or publicists. *oh the pain*

Aaaaaaaargh. :p

My first thought was, "It's EEEdis!" :p

"he must encourage the king to...

BECOME king."

*falls out of chair*

man, this whole "I have to read everything in a really slow voice AFTER it's been up for the 3.5 seconds it takes a normal person to read it" thing is bugging me.

pretty much the first picture sums up the entire tone of the

HE ALREADY HAS THE LOVE OF THE QUEEN, IDIOT

little movie thing

O NOEZ what if he were to become THE KING OF ATTOLIA by SOMEONE ELSE? ...I think this should be a contest suddenly.

anyway...*blinks*

I definitely know I saw King Arthur in their somewhere. And a lot of like Romans.

...the book's set in pseudo-GREECE, duh. *shakes head at this enormous inaccuracy*

What kind of a contest, jade? Certainly we could do better.

are you thinking what I'm thinking, Pinky?

(I'm feeling too lazy to make finger puppets. I want to but all the tiny details. *shudders* The dolls were bad enough.)

But I second this question, what kind of contest?

Date: 7/6/08 04:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jade-sabre-301.livejournal.com
the kind of contest where we write short snippets of what The King of Attolia by [insert someone other than MWT] would be. In my initial comment I was going to attempt a DWJ version, which would have involved--well, something like this why no I didn't watch Howl's Moving Castle yesterday...:

Gen: *staring into mirror* Oh alas, the scar on my face disfigures my perfect complexion. Since I don't look kingly enough, I guess I shan't act kingly today.
Attolia: Oh, tosh. That scar makes you look dashing and you know it.
Phresine: I COME BEARING A MYSTERIOUS PROPHECY THAT WILL ONLY BECOME CLEAR IN THE LAST FIVE PAGES.
Gen: Oh, bother. Costis, look into deciphering that for me whilst I run away, all rightie?
Costis: *le sigh*

JADE JADE JADE Ok if we start a new post with this? Do you want to or shall I steal your snippet (giving you credit of course) and start one?

Also, how about we ask for better photos for the books' scenes? That would be fun, too. I'm sure folks could come up with better ones than the stinky old booktalk has.

I couldn't watch the whole thing, but reading some of the comments I think I have to go back and brave what must be the most enthusiastic voice ever *sarcasm* to see more of his mistakes. But seriously, does he think anyone could listen to that and think afterwords "That sounds great, I'm going to go read that" with his presentation of it? UUUGGGGHHHH!

I WILL WRITE THE POST tomorrow afternoon I PROMISE.

also I agree with the picture contest. Do you want to do them together or separately? Should we do like a REAL contest, or just a friendly competition?

Date: 7/8/08 01:29 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
Oh, let's do them together, it's easier. A friendly competition sounds good to me, too.

OOOOH. This'll be FUN!

Friendly - judging IS so hard

*laugh* I totally prounounce it as Ed-is Meh-de-an (like the thing in the middle of a road, where flowers grow) and Kost-is. How would you prounce the last two? Everytime I read the books I've been trying to figure out how to say them.

Date: 7/9/08 12:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] traboule.livejournal.com
Err...well...I'd probably start by saying "Kowst-as" because that's how I'd pronounce it in Greek, but if I had to read the whole book out loud, it would devolve to "Kost-is" pretty fast.

I also say "Mee-dee-an" like the thing in the middle of the road, and now I can't remember if that's what Narrator With the Voice of Death was saying too (and I don't want to go back and watch him again!). But I'd probably track down someone in Classics and ask them how they'd pronounce it; I've always wondered anyway.

It's a mercy Narrator With the Voice of Death didn't give Gen's full name a try...
