That one day when he seemed frustrated I think it was because he had been distracted, in his eagerness to return to his room he forgot about the act he was putting on for the attendants, and knew it was too early to reveal that he could travel via rooftop... etc. cherryblosomjen: As far as the second discussion about why Gen and Irene hid their relationship, I have to agree with anon that it was for a specific purpose. Imo, that purpose was directly linked to destroying the house of Erondites. Gen must have felt that it was to his advantage to appear weak and unsuspecting (especially with regards to his relationship with the queen) until he had taken care of his promise and slowly built the trust of the guard.
