TA's come home from uni for the holidays (yayness!) and last night we were watching the first Lord of the Rings movie right through, together. That's me, TA, TC, and our dad, Ardie Bea, who is actually a member here as well (teh lulz) and of course we were fangirl/boy-ing over QT at the same time.

Anyway, we started off by agreeing that Legarus the awesomely beautiful should be played by Orlando Bloom (you know, Legolas the insanely beautiful), and then someone said that Viggo Mortmensen (Aragorn) should be Teleus. The rest of us disagreed and then someone said Sean Bean (Boromir) and we all suddenly thought how perfect that would be. And Hugo Weaving (Elrond) for Relius, even though he is a bit old.

Thoughts?

I agree with Orlando Bloom as Legarus and Sean Bean as Teleus :D

I love the Legarus idea, well spotted. I like your other ideas, too!!! I don't know about Hugo Weaving as Relius, but I think Sean Bean would be awesome.

My image of Legarus is generally a little more beefcake. Gah! I just got a mental image of Brad Pitt in Troy. DO NOT WANT!

That being said, Sean Connery has always been my Magus . . . for the voice at least.

I agree about Sean Connery as the Magus. That would probably work. ;)

Yay, Penguin! I agree completely. Brava for speaking out.

I kind of think that Johnny Dep would make a good Nashuseresh - I'm not sure he could be evil or nasty enough, but I can very easily picture him with a red pointed beard...

I vote Sean Connery for the Magus, defintely.

Who do you all think would be good for Eddis?

I do want to comment on how awesome it is that your whole family reads these books!

That was my hesitation. If we could have Dep's appearance with Alan Rickman's acting....

I also think that Mortenson should be the Magus. Or maybe Pol.

I don't think he could be the Magus . . . I agree with Pol though!

XD I love how my family does what I tell them.

It's not true, sadly - only about half of us have read them.

The mapping to LotR actors wasn't offensive-I was just pointing out the problem of race. What you two said about tanning and makeup was actually really offensive, and whether or not you thought it was a judgment, it wasn't an acceptable thing to say, even as a joke.

Maccalla, I don't think Penguin intends to pounce on you personally. This business of whitewashing fantasy (and other genres) is quite a hot topic right now out in the world, and she is just reminding us all to be sensitive to it. No need to get defensive. The topic of race makes everyone stumble a bit, because we aren't used to addressing it openly, and the best we can do is all be aware and also be forgiving of each other.

I'm going to step in here as moderator and ask everyone to move on to a new topic. It would be a shame to allow this post to lead to hurt feelings between what has always been a friendly, open fan group. Can we all agree to keep to on-topic discussion here and use other, more appropriate, blogs for other topics?

Thank you, dear ones. *huggles all of sounis*

Aragorn? As Pol? Gods, no!
Isn't Pol supposed to be the sort of person who can pick up two Attolians by the belt and jump off a cliff with them?

True that. I still think it MIGHT work though. Mostly just because I love Aragorn and would love to see more of him. :)
