[livejournal.com profile] ninedaysaqueen  is translating the Japanese chapter headings for us, and needed more information.  Since we've hijacked the GiftCard post long enough, and because I don't know how to put a picture in a comment, here are the requested chapter headings under their very own post:

the explanation for what she needs is here:

Kanji are the pictorial characters that you see written diagonally under the chapter numbers. The two further down with the kana* written between them are the chapter names. The repetitive ones on either side of the numbers probably just mean chapter.
Kana is a phonetic alphabet that tells one how to pronounce the kanji. The kana are the simple symbols that you see written in between the two kanji. The kanji is important because they supply us with the literally meaning of the word. Many kanji are also pronounced the same way, but of course mean different things.

What would work best is if you could post photos of the chapter heading within the book like you did for chapter 6 of The Thief. The chapter name is written on the right side of the page on that dark area with chapter picture. The kanji for these other two chapters should be right in that spot. The photo does not have to be big just clear enough so that I can see each stroke of the kanji (I can zoom in). This is how the kanji are looked up by counting the number of strokes it takes to write them.

This would be the key to all my translating woes, and even if I still can't find these words, I know where I can ask if I have the correct kanji.

Again, that's chapter 4 for "The Thief" and chapter 6 for "The King of Attolia" IV.

Be blessed in your endeavors.

If these don't work, perhaps I could just email the pictures to you.  The KoA page didn't photograph too well, probably because of the darker background.

The Thief, Chapter 4 Heading

King of Attolia, Chapter 6 Heading

*  The kana are the faint characters to the right of the bottom two?  I never noticed them before!  SUCH an education this comm is!
