Gen was 10 in the Thief! short-story published in Disney Adventures magazine. Note the exclamation mark. That part of the post was referring to that short-story not "The Thief" the novel. As I stated, he was 15 or 16 in the book.
I agree with your thinking on Irene. If she is 8 to 10 years older then Gen that would make her 4 to 7 years older then Helen. Irene did mention that she wasn't that much older then Helen but having reigned longer had much more experience. 3 to 6 years is probably right in there.
