I don't feel like Irene/Attolia is 8 or 10 years older than him. I think closer to 6 or 7. She says at end of Q of A that she became queen at barely more than a child (I'm guessing 16) and has ruled for longer than Eddis (who's ruled for 7 years) so I think Gen was 19 or so when they married, and she was 25 or 26. I think the author's not saying the ages because if the ages are too weird the fans could be repulsed. We can all just put our on guess on how young he would have to be married to an older woman and not have it seem gross. :) Attolia also thinks at one point that Eddis is only a few years older than Gen and she (herself) is only a few years older than Eddis.
