I think it's usual for the child of a king to have precedence over the brother of a king. But that might conceivably only apply to children who are sons; That's kinda what I was thinking. But all of Helen's brothers die anyway, so I guess that's how that works.
There is definitely a scene in TT where the magus is quizzing his apprentices about how succession works in Eddis, and I think Ambiades compares it to how things work in Sounis. Maybe there are relevant details there? I'm away from my books at the moment. Ack! Another reason I need my book back. I have got to re-read this series. There is so much to take in and it's the kind of books where you'll see a little deeper and catch something else you missed that last go 'round.
