I know we've mentioned Lois McMaster Bujold's books in the books recs thread below as well as in a couple of other places. So it's kind of cool that LMB herself recommended MWT's books on her mailing list:

Patricia Wrede also makes a brief mention of the books:

Here's another mention:

Sorry, late comment

That is pretty cool. :)

It's interesting that all three mention MWT in context with YA novels. I think Patricia Wrede makes a good point about the tone of the book. The Queen of Attolia particularly deals with issues which could potentially be quite disturbing, but I think MWT manages to keep them poignant without going over the top.

:) I know others have disagreed though.

That is awesome. Thanks for sharing, [livejournal.com profile] dh684. The Miles novels are wonderful. I loved this quote from LMB, (talking about Eugenides) "For those of you suffering Miles-withdrawal, it has a wonderfully smart-ass, short, twisty-mided protagonist that you may enjoy a lot. I did."

I'm reading Dorsai! by Gordon Dickson. MWT said a character was an influence on Eugenides, and I think it is Donal, the main character of this book, although there are dozens of books in the series (Childe Cycle). It is excellent SciFi, very well written and action packed. Donal is a master at subterfuge, indirection and foolhardy plans. It's the first book in the series.

Have you all seen the reviews of Thief, QoA, KoA here? (http://yzocaet.blogspot.com/2006/03/thief.html) Good reviews and I love the doodlings in her notebook in the QoA review.

:) I'd only seen the review for KoA, thanks for the link. It looks like an interesting blog in itself.

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit there are similar doodlings covering my Year 8 maths books. :D

Many of the reviews I've seen have said basically the same thing as the back covers of the books. It's good to see some original comments and to know that someone else has fallen madly in love with Gen <3.

I was also wondering how everyone pronounces some of the characters' names. For example: for Gen I say Jen.
