[identity profile] steal-elephants.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] queensthief

So:  I confess that I've been lurking here for a while now (and getting really excited at such an overabundance of Megan Whalen Turner love).
But today, the lurking stops.  My excessive love for Gen -- and every single squee-worthy Queen's Thief book -- made me want to become a part of the awesomeness that is Sounis.

In other (shorter) words:  Hi!  I'm new here and I really love these books.

Also:  My lj account is probably 20 minutes old.  I don't have a clue what I'm doing.
And as far as this community goes, I'm wondering if there's anything in particular I should know about or do.  Help?

Thanks!

Welcome! I KNOW ISN'T THIS SERIES AWESOME??? Not to mention the people on this comm are amazing.

I can't think of any helpful hints right now, other than the obvious, like remember to sign in or you'll accidentally post as Anonymous. I'll let the more experienced members take it from there.

P.S. Love the username :)

Hey there, Newbie! You have a great username!

As for tips, um, be sure to search the archives before you post a topic with a question or something like that and I'll save you some time now by telling you that a movie version of the Thief series has already been discussed a bunch. (In that we speculated on who we'd like to see play whom, unfortunately a movie series is just fantasy right now.) But don't worry too much about if we've talked about something or not. We are obsessed people and are always happy to discuss stuff again!

de-lurking makes me happy.

Great username. Welcome! I can't think of anything in particular you need to know, I think LJ (and Chatzy, if you want to take a look at The Conspiracy Room) are pretty easy to figure out.

Ooo... piano!

Yay! Welcome! You need to meet Amo Legere's icon. :)

Um... Yeah. Well, you seem to have lj figured out mostly... So I'll just say welcome again!

The only advice I would give is to de-lurk.

Nice job. :D

Yeah, we really don't mind if you bring up an old topic for discussion. There's always new things to say about it.

Welcome! Love the username.

Tips... Hmm... Well, [livejournal.com profile] checkers65477 is our lovely moderator, and she can help you with most things.

All of our fanfiction is posted in our sister comm, [livejournal.com profile] queensthief_fic.

Knowing how to use the LJ-Cut (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75) is important.

And here are some useful HTML commands (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=72) to use in your comments.

Either way, this is a very laid back community. Everyone may tease you if you do something silly (see CAT NOTICE), but no will get upset about it.

Hello! No worries about being new--you'll pick up html pretty fast, and I haven't met a single impatient/rude person here if you bork a post or something. We're dreadfully polite.

Unless we know each other outside the community, then we may hurl insults in a fit of affection

Hi Hi HI!!!! You have an awesome username! See, when I de-lurked, I was stoopid and didn't realize the usernames had to do with the books sometimes (but not always). And I am old so I totally fail at computers. There is not a mistake that I have not made already, so you are safe. And my feet are in my mouth a lot too. Speaking of that, Ms Turner drops by sometimes and is Anonymous, but signs her posts ~mwt so we know who she is. She hasn't been by lately because she's giving us time to trash A Conspiracy of Kings if we want to. *rolls eyes* Anyway, it is fun to go back in the archives to read these comments. She is one witty lady.
So WELCOME, and Yay and have fun!

Oh my gosh, I LOVE YOUR NAME!!! Awesome! I know we're all looking foreward to the elephant XD

Welcome to Sounis, you're gonna have a ton of fun (hopefully). Come to the official chat (or cat...) tomorrow!!!

Hey there. Welcome to Sounis and LJ.

Quick tip: make sure you click "Post a new comment" to reply just to an entry, and "Reply to this" to reply directly to a comment. A lot of people don't bother checking posts they responded to and instead rely on LJ's (admittedly iffy) comment notif system. They're not going to see comments not made directly to them unless they have something stalkerpinned, which isn't often.

Hello there! I just stopped de-lurking myself just a few days ago. Isn't this great? Don't worry about a thing, I've been a lurker for as long as I've known good literature and these folks are terrifyingly hospitable. Everyone here is so much more intellectual than oh about 90% of the population so they are some seriously stimulating company. I love your username by the way and I'm glad we know there's one more person here expecting the elephant to come. Sounis!

Oh YAY welcome. I'll echo what others have said about feeling free to post questions about the books even if they've been asked before. There hasn't been a whole lot of in-depth discussion recently, so it would be welcome.

YOU MUST NOW PASS OUR TEST. *
Which book is your favorite?
How did you find the books?

*completely kidding about the test thing. It's summer. NO TESTS.

According to Urban Dictionary, "to bork" is "to damage irreversibly." Er, actually, "to irreversibly damage" because UD splits it infinitives. But etymology.com says it was coined in 1987 as a way of describing a character assassination, which is the reason why Richard Bork was not a US Supreme Court justice after that...

OOOooooohhhhhhh.... BORK as in Richard. Got it. Now it all makes sense.

Thanks for clarifying.

I do a similar back-and-forth thing with Queen and King. Sort of a "love the one you're with" thingie. Queen is officially my favorite, but when I'm reading King--yeah.

I'm with you guys. I love TT and ACoK infinitely, but Q and KoA are my faves, each for their different unique reason.
