To introduce myself...
Jun. 26th, 2010 03:04 pmSo: I confess that I've been lurking here for a while now (and getting really excited at such an overabundance of Megan Whalen Turner love).
But today, the lurking stops. My excessive love for Gen -- and every single squee-worthy Queen's Thief book -- made me want to become a part of the awesomeness that is Sounis.
In other (shorter) words: Hi! I'm new here and I really love these books.
Also: My lj account is probably 20 minutes old. I don't have a clue what I'm doing.
And as far as this community goes, I'm wondering if there's anything in particular I should know about or do. Help?
Thanks!

Date: 6/26/10 08:10 pm (UTC)I can't think of any helpful hints right now, other than the obvious, like remember to sign in or you'll accidentally post as Anonymous. I'll let the more experienced members take it from there.
P.S. Love the username :)

Date: 6/26/10 09:29 pm (UTC)As for tips, um, be sure to search the archives before you post a topic with a question or something like that and I'll save you some time now by telling you that a movie version of the Thief series has already been discussed a bunch. (In that we speculated on who we'd like to see play whom, unfortunately a movie series is just fantasy right now.) But don't worry too much about if we've talked about something or not. We are obsessed people and are always happy to discuss stuff again!
de-lurking makes me happy.

Date: 6/26/10 10:47 pm (UTC)Tips... Hmm... Well,
All of our fanfiction is posted in our sister comm,
Knowing how to use the LJ-Cut (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=75) is important.
And here are some useful HTML commands (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=72) to use in your comments.
Either way, this is a very laid back community. Everyone may tease you if you do something silly (see CAT NOTICE), but no will get upset about it.

Date: 6/27/10 01:05 am (UTC)Quick tip: make sure you click "Post a new comment" to reply just to an entry, and "Reply to this" to reply directly to a comment. A lot of people don't bother checking posts they responded to and instead rely on LJ's (admittedly iffy) comment notif system. They're not going to see comments not made directly to them unless they have something stalkerpinned, which isn't often.
Thanks!
Date: 6/27/10 01:20 am (UTC)Thanks, I like my username too; who wasn't excited to hear about the elephants? And who wasn't excited to find this comm? Joining may have been the best decision of my week.
Thank you all for the help!

Date: 6/27/10 09:31 pm (UTC)The favorite book question is kind of hard for me. Until about a week or two ago, the answer would have been King of Attolia hands down. But after my most recent re-read of the series this past week, I'm really loving Queen of Attolia too.
I think the angst in QoA bothers some people, but its emotional tensio really works for me. Plus I love seeing Gen mature.
But KoA makes me really really happy. Even though much about it isn't happy (like Gen's homesickness and isolation), I adored how sneaky, snarky, and brilliant he turned out to be. The ending always has me grinning ear to ear, and I love Gen/Irene.
So I'm kind of conflicted.
I found the books when I was about ten. My best friend told me that I absolutely had to borrow her copy of the Thief. I'm pretty much eternally indebted to her now. ;)
