Peggy: I was out shopping for school supplies with my son, and he was driving.
Peggy: *still trying to lower blood pressure*
anon8: LOL
Peggy: As he kept pointing out,
Peggy: he didn't hit anyone, or anything.
Peggy: A few curbs had to jump out of the way though
anon8: ooooh gosh
Peggy: not to mention a family unit with small child.
Peggy: *blanches in memory*
anon8: well, practice makes perfect
Peggy: Yeah, I guess.

Rowana: :D
Peggy: or pudding and meatballs,
anon8: naw, it's mostly been just us so far
Rowana: Ah, oh well. Sorry I wasn't here earlier, I had a social committment. I think Checkers has one too.

Peggy: should the email addresses be deleted before then?
Rowana: I'm going to lock the post so that only current members of the community can see it.
Rowana: Any new people who join won't be able to. :) Selectively locking.
Peggy: Wow.
Peggy: Cool option.
Rowana: If you'd rather your address was taken down completely though, just to be sure, I can do that. :)
Peggy: Of course, it makes me wonder what I've been missing;
Rowana: :D I haven't locked anything like that before.
Peggy: price one pays for being late to the party I guess.
anon8: moderator's powerful huh?
Rowana: But of course, I would say that, right? :D
Peggy: I do like your Moderator Icon, Ro!
Rowana: Hmm. i feel a bit awkward about all the modly power, I know one mod who used to chuck people out whenever she got mad at them.
Rowana: Thank you!
Peggy: Severe.
Rowana: It has my likeness perfectly. :D
anon8: haha
Peggy: Is the recent barrage of new people unusual?
Peggy: Or has it been going like that over time?
Rowana: Um, I think it's not so much that they're new, it's that they're new and participating.
anon8: immigration seems to come in waves
Rowana: Normally they snek in and hide in the corner for a while.
Peggy: *** wait - you have a green head?
Rowana: Yes, or one person posts an introduction and all the other new people find the courage to do it too.
Rowana: :D
Peggy: that would explain the multiple wedding tradition.
Peggy: and maybe the treatment of the bridegroom.
Rowana: *falls off chair*
Peggy: I was wondering. Thanks!
Peggy: *the lightbulb lights up*
Rowana: I don't have a green head sadly, no. It would make life more
interesting.

Nutmeg3 from x.x.x.6 joined the chat 37 seconds ago
Rowana: *nod nod*
Peggy: Yeah Nutmeg!
Rowana: Hi Nutmeg. :D
anon8: hello Nutmeg
Peggy: An editor!
Nutmeg3: Hi! I lost track of time. :-(
Peggy: you and checkers should be quite a team!
Nutmeg3: Does Checkers edit, too?
Peggy: she's a librarian.
Peggy: It's all about the words.
Nutmeg3: Cool!
Rowana: I want to say something subtle about wrath, but nothing's coming to mind.
anon8: me neither
Nutmeg3: Thank you guys for all being so welcoming. I told the friends who hooked me to join, too, and one (QoA) has.
Peggy: just don't chew gum in her library.
Peggy: that's all I've got to say about it!
Rowana: :)
Rowana: No problem Nutmeg. We so rarely get new people who actually comment, it's easy to be welcoming.
Rowana: That, and this place is quite small.
Peggy: Yeah - they de-lurk with a vengeance!
anon8: but it's very nice to see it expanding :)
Nutmeg3: I noticed that. But if MWT links to it, I'll bet it grows really quickly.
Rowana: :) It'd be nice.
anon8: oh yeah, lots of people show up to comment
Nutmeg3: I find commenting easy but introducing myself was hard.
Peggy: *shakes heads mournfully*
Peggy: but then I won't get ANYTHING done!
Nutmeg3: I love lj, but it's SUCH a time-suck.
Rowana: How so?
Peggy: checkers said it was much like a cocaine addiction ... I have to agree!
Rowana: :) You might have a point.
Peggy: I have, however, recovered from my Gen withdrawal.
Peggy: Good job Sounis!
Rowana: :D
Rowana: I was going to ask if anyone read Gregory Maguire
Rowana: Green heads and all that
Peggy: ?
Nutmeg3: Don't know him.
anon8: don't think so
Rowana: *sighs*
Peggy: So throw out a title and we'll see if it rings a bell.
Rowana: He sort of re-wrote the Wizard of Oz from the witch's point of view.
Peggy: Oh!
Peggy: the musical
Nutmeg3: Oh, the Wicked guy?
Rowana: I quite enjoyed it, I just need to talk to someone about it. *frustration*
anon8: ahh
Rowana: Yes, the Wicked guy
anon8: did you see the musical yet?
Rowana: Nope.
Rowana: Going in September. :)
Peggy: I made it about 1/2 way through the book
Peggy: there are like three now, right?
Nutmeg3: I haven't seen it - and I work in NYC!
Rowana: It just happened to come to London. I love my luck sometimes.
anon8: niiice
Peggy: I think you need to read the Oz books to really appreciate his perspective
Rowana: Two books Peggy
Peggy: (from what I've heard)
Peggy: Are you sure?
Rowana: :) Yeah, I think that could be true.
Peggy: Just Wicked and Son of?
Rowana: Yep
Rowana: I read another of his books first - Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
Peggy: *bows to great knowledge*
Peggy: I thought Stepsister was a Wicked book.
Peggy: That explains it.
Nutmeg3: Cinderella?
Rowana: :) I was about to say "I could be wrong" but now I'll preen instead.
anon8: lol
Peggy: You go girl!
Rowana: Um, a re-telling of Cinderella
Rowana: I'm sensing some sort of pattern. :)
Rowana: Do you live in NY then Nutmeg?
Nutmeg3: CT and I work in NYC. Long commute. :-(
Rowana: Um, er, this'll sound stupid, but CT?
Rowana: What does that stand for?
Nutmeg3: Connecticut. Sorry.
Peggy: Brits!
Rowana: *hides*
Rowana: I could tell you where Twickenham is. :)
Peggy: This is all quite educational for you, and us!
Nutmeg3: So you live in London? (I'm just figuring out who's who, and where.)
Rowana: Yep.
Peggy: so ... where is it?
Nutmeg3: ::envies::
Peggy: Twickenham
Rowana: Where is London?
Peggy: I've heard of London
Rowana: Oh, er, somewhere south-ish. *gestures vaguely*
Peggy: actually, even been there.
Rowana: You take a left on the M25 I think.
Peggy: I love the high teas!
Rowana: Do we have high tea?
Rowana: I mean, yeah, me too!
anon8: ?
Peggy: the ones with Devonshire cream.
Peggy: It was my favorite part of London.
Rowana: Wow. Whereabouts did you eat this?
Peggy: plus the shops, of course.
Peggy: I don't remember. It was lovely.
Rowana: Oh the shops. Overpriced, but very tempting, I agree.
Rowana: i'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
Peggy: And lemon curd : )
Rowana: It sounds like you stayed in a nice area
Peggy: Maybe. Tourists, you know. If you come to the lawn party, will you bring some?
Peggy: Not tourists
Rowana: Lemon Curd?
Peggy: Lemon curd and Dev cream
Rowana: I'll sneak into a posh hotel just for you Peggy, and make off with their scones too.
Peggy: Oh yeah!
Peggy: You mean you don't eat this sort of stuff all the time?
Peggy: *another illusion shattered*
Rowana: Well...no
Nutmeg3: I'll come just for the food, LOL!
Rowana: I'm so sorry.
anon8: sounds soo good
Peggy: and Dancing Bears
Rowana: Oh, we still have those. And thrush on a stick.
Peggy: Oh dear
Peggy: We have deep fried twinkies on a stick
Peggy: does that count?
Rowana: That..sounds much ncier than thrush
Nutmeg3: I want to try a fried Mars Bar.
Rowana: Noo!
Rowana: We have those here.
Rowana: Ugh.
Peggy: Wisc State Fair is this week
Peggy: over 70 food items-on-a-stick
Nutmeg3: I know. And I want one. Why are they ugh?
Rowana: It's just, all that lovely chocolate ruined. With oil. Dried oil. Yuck.
Nutmeg3: Do you have cheese curds? I had those in Minnesota and they were wonderful.
Rowana: I...don't think so.
Peggy: I'm in Wisconsin - we invented cheese curds!
Rowana: Over 70 food items?
Nutmeg3: I meant in Wisconsin - sorry.
Peggy: on a stick
Rowana: Surely there aren't that many things you can put on a stick.
Nutmeg3: Have a curd for me, then. :-)
Peggy: squeaky ones
Peggy: Maybe I should bring fresh cheese curds to the party
Nutmeg3: Squeaky?
Rowana: Where is Wisconsin in the US?
Peggy: those are the fresh ones
Nutmeg3: Yes, bring them!
Rowana: Northish? Southish? Westish?
Peggy: Wisc is tucked under Lake Superior, just west of lake Michigan
Rowana: *peers around* Has anon8 wandered off?
Peggy: SOuth of Canada
Peggy: gone for food
Rowana: Ah!
anon8: still hanging out
Rowana: Sorry. :)
Peggy: Nutmeg - ask Rowena about the Sounis name
anon8: but yeah, i was going to go make lunch soon, lol :)
Peggy: I want to know too!
Rowana: Ask me what?
Rowana: Lunch, that sounded wierd for a second. It's 10pm here. :)
Nutmeg3: OK - Rowe/ana (I'm already confused), I was wondering why the list is called Sounis, not Attolia or Eddis.
Rowana: You can call me Ro. :)
Peggy: sorry- typots!
Nutmeg3: And if anyone can point me to the earring story... ::makes pupptdog eyes::
Peggy: Ro's got it
Peggy: I do too now, if necessary
Nutmeg3: Uh, puupYdog. (I can edit but I can't type.)
Peggy: : )
Rowana: Um, well, I didn't actually make Sounis. I suggested the idea on the other fangroup (at allreaders - the one no one goes on) and Victoria (Eddis, the other mod), went off and made one.
Rowana: And she called it Sounis. So you'd have to ask her. :)
Peggy: I was wondering about Eddis
Rowana: She wanders in every now and then.
anon8: haven't seen her in a while
Peggy: Checkers had a clever observation about MWT posts
Peggy: She comes in as annonymous,
Peggy: and is one of the few that puts a subject on threads
Peggy: Is Victoria a Brit too?
Rowana: I don't think so
Rowana: We don't know each other very well.
Peggy: Well, kudos to both of you!
Peggy: Great job!
Rowana: Thanks.
anon8: yeah :)
Nutmeg3: How long has the comm been around?
Rowana: Sorry, I wanderd off for a second
Peggy: Nutmeg - I'll send you the story.
Peggy: I have it as a word document
Rowana: Checkers made a good point. :)
Rowana: Really?
Nutmeg3: Thank you! ::is ecstatic::
Rowana: Oh yeah, sorry, was thinking of something else
Rowana: That wasn't sarcasm. :)
Peggy: Can I get your email from your lj account?
Peggy: Nutmeg's, that is
Nutmeg3: You can use nutmeg3@livejournal.com or ljw143@aol.com
Peggy: *jots down*
Peggy: I'll send it over Monday morning;
Peggy: it's on my other work computer
Nutmeg3: Thank you so much. I can't wait to read it.
Peggy: The EasterEggs of Sounis!
Rowana: I can't remember if I asked - what did you think of the story Peggy?
Nutmeg3: Hee!
Peggy: I thought Gen seemed very young.
Peggy: He matured a lot in those 7-10 years!
Nutmeg3: Does it predate The Thief?
anon8: oh yeah
Rowana: Yes, definitely. :)
Peggy: And I thought the writing seemed targeted to a young reader.
Rowana: Gen's about ten years old in it.
Peggy: I did like the story though
Nutmeg3: Baby!Gen!
Rowana: It was in Disney Adventures, so I guess i can understand that
Peggy: *agrees*
Nutmeg3: Is that the magazine by the grocery store checkout?
Rowana: It makes you realise how mature the books are though, for their allotted age group.
anon8: definitely
Peggy: Much like the HP books
Rowana: Yes.
Nutmeg3: Have any of you read the Flambards trilogy? Also supposedly YA.
Peggy: I need to head off to work; I'll check in as I can.
Peggy: *wanders off*
Rowana: I don't think so.
Nutmeg3: Bye - and thanks again.
anon8: okay, nice chatting with you Peggy!
Rowana: Bye Peggy. :)
Peggy: : )
Peggy: *waves*
Rowana: Nutmeg, what's the author's name?
Nutmeg3: KM Peyton. Set in Edwardan(?) England, pre-during and post-WW I. Totally adult, imo, despite the main character being 16 or so when it starts.
Nutmeg3: There's a 4th book, too, written later.
Rowana: It sounds interesting.
Rowana: That reminds me of Douglas Adams. :) A trilogy of five.
Nutmeg3: I first saw them on Masterpiece Theatre on US public broadcasting - it was a British mini based on the first 3 books, and she wrote the 4th one after.
Peggy: *pops in* I love the idea of the 4th and 5th books in that "trilogy"
Nutmeg3: Me too. I wish there'd been 8 or 10.
Rowana: What's the title of the first? I'll scribble it down on my to-read list.
Nutmeg3: I'm trying to remember and can't, because they came out as a 3-in-1 here. I'll check and e-mail it to you.
Rowana: I've got KM Peyton up on Amazon, but there's loads.
Rowana: Thanks. :)
Nutmeg3: Possibly just Flambards. The second is Above the Cloud, then something with Summer in the name, I think.
Rowana: *scribbles down*
Nutmeg3: The 4th is maybe Return to Flambards?
Nutmeg3: Hang on - I'll check.
Rowana: I'll try looking for them. :)
Nutmeg3: Just Flambards. And Flambards Divided is the 4th. But there are a couple of things on the list I've never seen and need to check out. There may be more than 4.
Nutmeg3: #2 is The Edge of the Cloud and #3 is Flambards in Summer,
Rowana: Cool. Thank you!
Nutmeg3: I hope you like them. They're not fantasy, but I think they're wonderful.
Rowana: They sound historical, and I love historical novels.
Nutmeg3: They are, and it was a time when things were changing drastically, with cars and planes and women's changing roles coming to the fore.
Rowana: I guess the novel must reflect that.
Nutmeg3: They do, but in a very character-driven way.
Rowana: They sound pretty good. I'll definitely take a look for them.
Nutmeg3: :-)
Rowana: My favourite historical novel has to be 'Cuckoo in he Nest' by Michelle magorian.
Rowana: Though actually, Phillippa Gregory's books come close.
Nutmeg3: I don't know that one. What's it about?
Rowana: I loved it when I was younger. It's set just after the Second World War, and is about a boy who wants to become an actor.
Rowana: He's from a working class family though, and his dad's still adjusting to coming home to find his kids five years older.
Nutmeg3: I just e-mailed the name to myself so I won't forget, and I'll look for it later.
Rowana: I loved it, partly because it's extremely character driven too. :)
Nutmeg3: I never enjoy books that are all plot with cardboard characters. But if a character's interesting, I'll read anything.
Rowana: Yes, I agree. The best books, one of my favourite authors said, make you look out through a character's eyes, not inwards at the character.
Nutmeg3: Good quote. Who said it?
Rowana: I ought to be wandering off to do the neglected dishes now though.
Rowana: Diana Wynne Jones. :) Great children's author.
Nutmeg3: And I should either go back to editing or make dinner.
Nutmeg3: Oooh, I mentioned her in my intro post. :-)
Rowana: It was nice seeing you here. :)
Rowana: Really?
Rowana: Are you a fan?
Nutmeg3: You too. I'm glad I came.
Rowana: Sorry, I haven't scanned the new posts on Sounis yet
Rowana: *has to ask before she leaves* Which is your favourite book?
Rowana: Of hers, I mean.
Nutmeg3: A friend sent me 2 of her books and I looved the one I read (Deep Secret? Something like that.) and now need to read Howl.
Nutmeg3: It's in my intro post, LOL! Queen. (I think.)
Rowana: Deep Secret is great. I didn't like the sequel much though. :)
Nutmeg3: Everyone I know says King, but...well, I explained why Queen (sort of). But all 3 are wonderful.
Nutmeg3: I didn't know there was a sequel.
Rowana: To deep secret? It's called 'The Merlin Conspiracy' and is all about nick.
Rowana: No Rupert of Maree
Nutmeg3: I guess I'll leave it to later, then.
Rowana: I have to dash, see you later!
Nutmeg3: Bye!

Nutmeg3: Thank you! ::is ecstatic::
Rowana: Oh yeah, sorry, was thinking of something else
Rowana: That wasn't sarcasm. :)
Peggy: Can I get your email from your lj account?
Peggy: Nutmeg's, that is
Nutmeg3: You can use nutmeg3@livejournal.com or ljw143@aol.com
Peggy: *jots down*
Peggy: I'll send it over Monday morning;
