I just saw this, and totally loved how many parallels there were. A couple more...
*Eugene eventually becomes a king. (Not in the movie, but he marries a princess...) *Eugene not telling you everything as he's narrating. (He starts out by saying that he dies.) (Sidenote: This scene where he dies reminds me quite a bit of Beauty and the Beast.) *Eugene can steal anything without you noticing. (The scene at the beginning where he steals the crown back from the two thugs when he's climbing reminds me both of Eugenides stealing Hamiathes' gift back from the Magus and of when he steals Attolia's knives on the stairs.) *Eugene takes Rapunzel unexpectedly on a boat and confesses his love. *Eugene finds himself in a flooding cave, just like Gen does when he goes to get Hamiathes' gift.
...and there were more, but I can't think of them now!
Spoilers, but I suppose most people reading this will have seen the movie by now...
