I know this could've been discussed before but...

Anne Hathaway as Irene. Opinions?

I myself think she looks quite good in red. Plus, her rendition of the White Queen in Alice and Wonderland was quite convincing.

i love anne hathaway, but i honestly can't picture it. something about her face just strikes me as so girlishly innocent (residue from the princess diaries years?) despite having played kym in rachel getting married and maggie in love and other drugs.
and that's not to say she's a bad actress (she's definitely not), but idk. i can't picture her cutting people's hands off and hanging them upside down off the walls.

Well, neither could Gen, right? That whole picturing cruelty in her face thing. I do understand what you mean, though.

well, yeah, i understand that, but
idk how to explain it, haha. i've always thought of irene as someone too beautiful to be conceived as capable of doing innocent things, while anne, who is beautiful, don't get me wrong, is more of the girl-next-door character with the gorgeous smile and innocent eyes.

...if i'm making sense at all.

I totally get you. I think you've said exactly how I feel about this matter without me knowing it/knowing how to put it into words so well.

Oh sweet god in heaven NO. She is a terrible actress and spends every moment in film and on TV mugging shamelessly.

Just the idea of her as the character makes me want to scream.

I don't know, I really like her but I don't think she's... icy enough. She just looks sweet and innocent. I don't think I'd buy her as the Ice Queen. I'd say Eddis, if she got a haircut, but she's too pretty by far. Agape?

Haha, you got it in one.

It's like Nicole Kidman in The Golden Compass--she was beautiful, but there was a real cruelty there too (I know, I know, she looks ALL WRONG, I'm not suggesting she play Irene). She has the right AURA, I think--that's the kind of actress Irene would need. :)

Really, I think unknowns would be the best way to go.

I agree. Much to sweet. Even if she wanted to be evil...you *know* she could be a redeemable character if she wanted. Chopped hair and a prosthetic nose...I could see her as Eddis...

A baby doll face as Irene? Sorry, but I'd have to say no. The only movie Anne was any good in was Princess Diaries "(1 only). That movie matched her personality perfectly. Ok, she wasn't bad in Devil wears Prada. She is a "makeover" movie type. I have yet to see her successfully project anything deeper than mopey.

agape!

I'd actually thought of this before, because her appearance kind of matches up with Attolia in my mind. … but I definitely understand what’s being said here, and I agree that the fact that we all KNOW she can smile and be human would take away from her effectiveness at being Attolia.

I think because it says she was not attractive as a teenager, with a long face, that I've always assumed Attolia is beautiful, but not pretty, if you know what I mean.
