Okay, so I'm probably the only person here who hasn't re-read yet *ducks*, but if I recall correctly (probably don't), Gen, Eddis, and Attolia all tricked Sophos into believing he needed Attolia's army to retake his throne, when he actually didn't really. And that was almost the whole army he sent with him. He had had to scrounge to get them all. And yes, then the grand plan was of course one of those plans that could have gone all wrong very easily, so Gen probably freaked out ("swallowed") when Sophos was so matter-of-fact about it. I think. Maybe. I am starting to get really anxious to re-read now.
