Greetings, all! New member and fellow Attolia fan. Rabid fangirl, as it were. First came across The Thief at a tiny local nook of a bookstore before heading off to work one day, in need of some literary fodder. It looked generic to me at first and thought it would be mediocre at most, but I finished it within the span of two days and drooled over the next two as I slid them hastily to the proprietor to buy them the following week.

But I had an epiphany this very evening. If any members here are roleplayers, would you be interested in joining an Atollia community for it and participating?

Sincerely,
Nimisha.

ah, the fangirl who didn't know what she was getting into.

The most roleplay experience I've had is D&D, which is a little different I think from the roleplay you're thinking of, but I'm certainly open to the possibilities.

...dude I could totally roleplay Kakos-Irene...

never done a role play in my life unless you count year7 when one of my friends went round naming everyone after LOTR characters (it had just come out in the cinema)
(and in keeping with my name i ended up as sauron and saruman...)
but i would be interested...

welcome by the way :)

Welcome. :)

I don't think I'd be at all good at roleplay and so I haven't ever tried it out. But I do know that there are members here who are interested, (some were thinking of starting up a role play community last December but there weren't enough people).

Welcome!

I'm curious, all new folks, how did you find this site? We've had a steady stream of newcomers, which is great.

There's also a Wikipedia entry on The Thief with a map. I know someone once did a map here but I don't remember if it's the same one.

we're on Wikipedia's page?

*looks*

hey, we are!

Anyway, a friend of mine was lurking around and found this, and I went "how come I didn't think to find this" and came. But unlike her, I delurked.

I looked at that map, but it's just an approximation, because Eddis doesn't have enough mountains (and I think it's too big--Eddis has always seemed small to me, because I imagine that everything up to the mountains has been taken over by others) and because it's got too much coastline. That's just my opinion, though.

*lightsaber wrath*

I totally edited "The Thief"'s Wikipedia entry--it said Eddis was pronounced "eh-diss" so I went and added "ee-diss for the natives."

Gen would be so proud.

Does anyone but me disagree with the map of the countries? First of all, what "fans" estimated these territories, and second, why is Sounis taking up half of Europe? Attolia is all eastern-europey (I don't remember any descriptions of pine forests). And let's not forget that Gen, along with the Magus and company, walked the entire length of these three countries on foot, in what we presume to be...weeks? I can't recall exactly, and I don't have my book. Either way, I completely disagree with that entire map.

I completely agree with you - though they did think to call it a "rough sketch".

Even pretending that the countries were smaller, I've always thought of Eddis as being smaller than Attolia and Sounis being larger than both of them.

whenever i see maps in books i get annoyed for some unknown reason. i think i prefer imagining than looking at a map. e.g. if there's a map in there i'll keep looking at it each time a country is mentioned and that seriously disturbs my reading. and somehow maps are fakish. most of the maps inserted are very pretty AND unrealistic, so they ruin the story 'atmosphere' for me, in any case.
