I had an ultimate plan for introducing myself at the chat yesterday, before I realized that I had a dinner-thing and I couldn't join. ;_;
Therefore: hi.
The Queen's Thief books have managed to be my uncontested favorites (amazing) since I first read The Thief six years ago. They had a history in my house before I read them, though. I am lucky enough to have a children's librarian for a mother, and she and her Librarian Friends loved them without telling me about them, which I count a little unsporting. Like a punishment really.
Me: *does something bad*
Mum: HAHAHA. THAT'S IT. I...withhold Eugenides!
Me: gasp
(At one point, mum had QoA at home, and although I'd never read it, I recognized it. Totally ignorant, I said, cheerful as a chipmunk, "Oh, it's the HAND BOOK!" Her eyes did this amazing thing.)
At any rate, eventually I got them for Christmas and had to read them, and slobbered on them and ignored my family and had a generally good time ("Sorry, small obnoxious male cousins, I must read about...a small(ish) obnoxious male...who totally pwns you."). And then of course KoA came out and I was so excited that I started squealing in the library (very embarrassing for my mother, she probably wished she hadn't told me), and then flipped out again when it finally came out. And then I read all three aloud to my roommate and one of our good friends, and my roommate consequently went home to Kansas and read it to one of her friends.
And now we wander around campus talking about Toddlers With Toasting Forks and cabochon emeralds, and practicing General Sneakiness.
I think that says about everything.

Duck! It's a zucchini!
You and your roommates read aloud to each other? That's interesting. How does it work? Do you each pick something? It sounds cool.
Icons: I thought yours looked like Kaylee from Firefly, so I went to check. So you're another 1776 fan? I think there are three of us now. And may I take your emu icon to give to my friend who likes emus?
Welcome again!
Goose! It's a squash!
Yes to everything on icons. Yes, I am a 1776 fan, recently converted by manic obsession among my friends. Yes, Kaylee! Yes, feel free to take the emu! :D
And, thank you!

Yay for introducing it to new people! Spread the
hotEugenides love!no subject
I spread the Eugenides love this very day; a friend of mine came by the school school library circ desk and made the mistake of engaging me in conversation. As sneaky as sneaky can be, I started a normal sentence and then, without pausing for the normal space between words, I said, "ANDHAVEYOUREADTHISBOOK?" and whipped it out from under the circ desk. It was so sudden and the cover was so shiney that she had no other choice but to request it from another library immediately.

Oh, congratulations! I'm trying to find the right group of people to spread it to...they just haven't popped out of the woodwork yet.

i turned up for the chat, first time i actually managed it since i joined....and then nobody turned up
typical
*jumps up and down* i've read montmorency, but only the first one though my friends are bugging me to get the next ones (i work like a library for my friends lending out books, which means they all pester me for the next one leading to the temptation to say bugger off and buy it yourself)
if you want something to read i recommend catherine webbs mirror dreams (sorry had to do that, for me her books are up there with MWT)
anyway welcome and hope you enjoy

I have been talking up Thief like crazy in my library and the copies of it are ALWAYS checked out. Of course, then I go on to say how nice MWT is and how she's writing another book, etc.

but that's okay, because my icon is totally hot.
