Look at this author's last name!

I just don't believe it.

And now that I think about it, the title sounds a titch too coincidental. The Marriage Plot? Hmmm.

It won't let me view it without logging in. :-(

It's Jeffrey Eugenides (Jeffrey, right?). He always came up when I was searching for anyone out here who knew about mwt and her faaaaaaaaaaaabulosity. Then I found you. Er, us. Sounis.

:D

Um, right, Lizzyazula? I didn't look! Way to butt in and assume I know what I'm talking about!

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Jeffrey Eugenides is really famous- and part Greek with a Greek last name So?

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
He won a Pulitzer, and he ruins my google searches.

[identity profile] attackfish.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
The important part is he ruins my google searches.

[identity profile] booksrgood4u.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely ruins google searches - Bing searcches too!
Now Mr. Eugenides, just because you won a Pullitzer doesn't give you the right to ruin peoples internet searches.....

[identity profile] tiegirl.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, this. How dare he.

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
He'll have to legally change his name.

*nods*

There is no other solution.

[identity profile] booksrgood4u.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
We should write him a letter, and all sign it, asking him very nicely to change his name, or at the very least, change the spelling!

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Disclaimer: this is pure crack!

Dear Mr. Jeffery Eugenides,

Recent complaints filed in the courts of Fangirl-de-villa have brought to our attention that your name is a point of contention amongst our members. It appears that your unfortunate Greek name has repeatedly interfered with internet searches concerning our idol and beloved fictional boyfriend, Eugenides, king of Attolia.

Unfortunately, the object of our affection has no last name with which to distinguish himself from you. And technically, he doesn't have a first name, either. This, sadly, appears to be quite common in his family, as his parents also go nameless.

On this marked day, we respectfully request that you legally change your last name to something less inconvenient, and never allow it to be uttered on the internet again.

Thank you for your immediate attention in addressing this problem.

Sincerely,
Fangirl-de-villa, AKA the Reprobates

Oh my goodness, this is too funny!

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
My Sounis court title is Lady Jane of the Valley of the Parodies. I must live up to it occasionally! :)

[identity profile] velvetrose09.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL he ALWAYS comes up when I google search EUGENIDES. Which is a bit annoying, it's like NO, I WANT THE THIEF!

So, search
Eugenides -"Jeffrey Eugenides"

That is, web pages that include HIS name but not that guy's name.

[identity profile] velvetrose09.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a VERY nifty trick

thanks thnidu

Ack! Jeffrey Eugenides has a new book out?! Excellent! Middlesex was so completely enthralling. I haven't read Virgin Suicides, but I've heard good things about it and it's definitely on my list. Wow, thanks for the good news. Even if that probably wasn't your intended purpose by posting here. ;)

[identity profile] booksrgood4u.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, don't feel stupid...we love anything that reminds us of Gen, right? And besides, your post also reminded me that I love Goodreads, and that I haven't been on there in ages!

[identity profile] ninedaysaqueen.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a small collection of Sounis members on Goodreads here. (http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/36224.Sounis) Why limit the fun to LJ?

[identity profile] booksrgood4u.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Fun! I don't have a Goodreads account, but I will definitely check out the reccomendations. Thanks!

[identity profile] dannybailey.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh gosh! You shouldn't feel stupid at all. In fact, the main reason I picked up his book in the first place is because of his name lol. So really, we're in the exact same boat. :)

[identity profile] philia-fan.livejournal.com 2011-10-13 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Heard him on the radio the other day talking about the book -- it sounds interesting.

[identity profile] tiegirl.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He sounded nice, too, right?

[identity profile] tiegirl.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It again made me think that I wanted Terry Gross to interview mwt. I dunno if Mr Eugenides was on Terry Gross (is it Terri?) or not, because I heard, like, 2 minutes, and have now forgotten what I heard, but that's what I have taken away from it: Terry/Terri must interview mwt.

also/sidenote/random-to-the-max: I believe PA is going to become the new temperate rainforest region. :(

[identity profile] valiantarcher.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, I don't think I'd ever really heard of Jeffrey Eugenides before either. (Apparently, I also need to broaden my knowledge of literary horizons.)
Well, even if he is famous, it is kind of a funny coincidence. :)

[identity profile] 1221bookworm.livejournal.com 2011-10-14 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I never heard of him either! I don't pay much attention to authors outside this genre either, so I never heard of him or his books!
Thanks for sharing this interesting coincidence! (Eugenides is one of my few favorite characters who I have never actually googled, so I never saw this before!)

[identity profile] drashizu.livejournal.com 2011-10-15 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I only heard of him because I randomly saw someone reading Middlesex in one of my classes and of course wigged out when I saw the author's last name on the spine. I didn't even know that Eugenides was a real Greek name before I saw it! Lol, and I concur with the crack up above, we need to send him an email lodging a formal complaint pronto.

[identity profile] agh-4.livejournal.com 2011-10-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
THE MARRIAGE PLOT? This is really getting quite inconvenient. :)
