Hey, has anyone else read Thief's Covenant by Ari Marmell? Widdershins may not be Gen, but she's a pretty good thief character! And Marmell does some cool things with local gods.
Ooh...Another great thief book is 'The Spirit Thief'....I just read it a few weeks ago and am almost finished with the sequel...Eli Monpress is on a mission to have the largest bounty of any criminal ever recorded, and frequently reminds people that he is 'the greatest theif in the world' - Sound like anyone we know? I wonder how "The greatest thief in the world's" skills add up to Gen's "I can steal anything" skills.....
Well, he sort of is, but whenever he thinks about how awesome he is, he gets PISSED. Because, it's not *him* who is a Marty Stu, the gods made him that way, and one goddess in particular has taken a liking to him and that really makes him mad, too.
Eli appears to be happy-go-lucky in his Marty Stu-ness, but there are lots of still waters running deep, here.
I've explained this very badly, but I do love the Eli Monpress books. They're a lot of fun; nothing serious. The series is not finished yet, just a word of warning from a poor sap who read book 3 expecting some kind of ending. I do wish the author would stop using the work "gangly" though. For some reason that does not endear Eli to me. At all.
I did like it! Here's a link to the review (4th one down): http://bookaunt.blogspot.com/2012/02/princess-cyborg-witch-thief.html
Widdershins leads something of a charmed life, but things get pretty bad at times. The god she carries around with her isn't always that helpful and gives her a hard time, besides. (Though you don't get words from him really, more like emotions.)
I'll have to look for The Spirit Thief! Any other good thief books I've missed?
The thing about Eli is that he keeps alot of his past bottled up...In the first book you don't learn anything about his past, in the second you learn a little *stresses little* bit about his seriously messed up family and how those memories drive him to do what he does today....There are also great supporting charachters....Nico is my favorite - You can do it, Nico!
I haven't read it yet. I have it on my ereader but haven't gotten around to starting it but now that someone at Sounis has recommended it i will put it up at the top of my list.

Date: 2/29/12 04:38 am (UTC)I have now bought and devoured this book. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and am looking forward to the next book. :)
The Spirit Thief also looks interesting, but fortunately for my bank account, my library owns copies of it, so I've put it on hold.
