I will do a complete write-up in a few days, but since I know I'd be holding my breath for any scrap and since I love you guys more than my luggage:

No elephants in the next book. They're in the book AFTER the next one. Also, the one AFTER the next one will be from the POV of someone completely new. SOMEONE COMPLETELY NEW.

And that's all we got, folks, as far as future books go. We did try, but that was it.

There are more fun things to share when I get a chance! Pictures! Funny stuff! Cool stuff! It's coming your way, Sounis! And if any attendees would like to share their pics and comments, I would die of happiness.

THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME. And, NOT ENOUGH. I'm wondering if anyone who is still in town and is going to the Keynote would want to go out to lunch afterward as a group? Because tonight was kinda all about Megan (which is as it should be) but it would be fun to have time to, you know... be fans, together, talking about the books and such. Especially for those who came from further away. How does that sound? I'm looking at the LTUE schedule (http://ltue.net/Schedule.html) but it doesn't really say exactly where the Keynote is going to be... anyone know?

OH MY how did you obtain such gems of information from the treasure trove of Not Telling?! *envisions Sounisians tickle-torturing Megan with knit socks*

"...the one AFTER the next one will be from the POV of someone completely new." You know what this means? This means the next 2 books are from the POV of characters we've already met! PHILO FOR THE WIN!

*hopes*

Obviously, they plied her with giant lattes.

Um, just one more book before the last one. Alas.

Hello! So how many books remain in the Thief series? I thought there was going to be just one or two more. I wonder how long until the next book though. I can't wait so much! Ahhhh! Lol! :)

Well, here's a tidbit from one of the panels on writing today. In answering the question of outline vs. free write, we heard from MWT about her process.
Our MWT is not an outliner. In about 20,000 words she Sketches out the story, leaving notes to self , like *insert cool story here*. I'm pretty sure those sketches are kept in a secret temple under a waterfall only accessible once a year....so don't get any sneaky ideas.

She also shared some advice about engaging the reader. As we all know, she respects her readers enough not to spell everything out for us. So in sharing this philosophy with panel-goers she referenced a brain science study in which Beethoven was played, certain notes were left out and the listeners minds filled in those notes as though they had heard the notes that weren't really there. Her advice was...write your story and then go back and take out all the notes people will hear anyway. Allow them to construct on their own.
Eloquent, no?
See, I think that's why we love her forever.

I'm coming tomorrow, it'll be so much fun to hear all she has to say on the panels. Maybe I'll see you there?

Wow you put this up fast! Should I say what she mentioned about book 5 and POV or should I let one of you ladies jump in? Does that deserve its own post? :)

She didn't really mention Costis, but she did say (again) that what is contained within The King of Attolia is only half of the story she meant to tell. So.

That means the climax of the entire series (involving elephants, obviously) will not be from any of our close character's POV's. Right? We've had Gen, Irene, Helen, MoW (?), Magus, Old-Sounis, Costis, Sejanus, various attendants (?), Dite, Ornon, Relius, Sophos, Kamet, Nahuserfish.

None of those characters?

Or maybe we'll still get glimpses of those people. Each book (except The Thief; all the 3rd person books) seem to have a main POV character and then use other characters' POVs in a small way/as needed. For QoA the main ones would be Eugenides and Irene (also Nahuserperson). KoA is Costis. CoK is Sophos. Probably it means the book will mostly be from a new character's POV, the way KoA is from Costis.

So, it's official. The fifth book will be from the POV of Eugenides' brother Stenides. STENIDES MAKING CLOCKS WHILE THE WORLD BURNS.

Actually, I'm betting it will be from the POV of a Mede.

Two more books are slated. The next book, which MWT is working on now, will be the last half of what she originally planned for KoA. I would love to see it pick right back up from the steam room!

I don't think I can handle the pompous, self-reverential superiority of a Mede for an entire book. *slaps Nahuserfish*

Stenides would be so cool - I've been hoping that there would be the intervention somewhere on Eugenides siblings - even just a tid-bit from one of his 'mostly honest' sisters. That would be soo cool. Because they would have an amazing insight on the Eugenides - and especially, Eugendies as a thief, as their mothers son, fathers son.. etc.

Ahh amazeballs
