This from [livejournal.com profile] peggy_2 :

Stolen from Sharyn November, editor extraordinaire, we have Today's Question: What was or is your role in your childhood family?

Which character in the Thief books do you think has a similar role?

Discuss.

Family roles? Thats kinda hard for me to pin down. I'm not the oldest or the youngest or even the middle child. Or the parent. And now that you've asked me this question I'm having an identity crisis ;-)

But really though, even though he's the oldest, I kinda identify with Sophos in being the bookish scholarly sibling who isn't bossy or mischievous. *shrug*

I was the surrogate mother (two younger sisters).

I suppose my analogous persona in QT would veer between Eddis and Phresine.

I am an only child, but I don't get spoiled. I remember spending years talking to the mirror for company. Then, after I discovered the existence of books, I started talking to myself while reading. Come to think of it, I don't get along well with my cousins on one side, and on the other, they are either too old, or too young.

Maybe I could be one of those countless Eddisian cousins whom no one remembers.

Interesting question. I'm the youngest in my family by several years, with one older sister and one older brother. Subsequently I tended to feel lonely, melancholy, and somewhat superfluous as a child. (Until I discovered books.) My personality tends to run counter-culturally. My parents never had to worry about peer pressure when raising me. I was happiest when I was Doing My Own Thing, whatever that Thing happened to be at the time. I'm artistic, stubborn, witty (at equally appropriate and inappropriate times), thoughtful, intuitive, bookish, and extremely reclusive. In fact, I'm a textbook INFJ, (only 'Introversion' doesn't equal 'shy' in my case). Safe to say I'm the black sheep in the family--which is interesting, as both of my parents where the black sheep in their families--and I'm blessed to have people that love me anyway. :)

So I can say with perfect honesty that I relate/identify very strongly with Gen.

I'm an INFJ too! At least, I think I am. I'm not sure how good the diagnostic test I took was.

It's curious, because my family situation is pretty much the opposite of yours. I am the oldest, by 12 years, which is a long enough interval that both me and my sister are basically only children. If that makes any sense. :P

I'm the youngest, so I guess in that way I'm like Gen, but I'm probably more like Sophos....I read a lot, and I sometimes trip over things that aren't there XD

I think it would be interesting to type the characters... I would guess Attolia is ISTJ, Gen is ISTP... Eddis might be ENFJ...

Maybe.
Anyway.

I'm INTP by the way. :-)

I'm the youngest of two, and even though there're almost six years between us and I'm a girl, my big brother and I get along very well. Actually, the whole family gets along pretty well -- our mom and our dad and us. The rest of our relatives live halfway across the country, so it's just us four most of the time. All of my many, many cousins (maybe as many as Gen's!) are either much older or much younger than I am, and I don't hardy see them, anyways. I guess that I'm part of a big family, but I don't really feel it.
Therefore, I tend to have a soft spot for big brother/little sister relationships, but close cousins don't do as much for me. So I've always felt a little sad for Eddis, since all of her brothers died, but not so bad because of Gen's cousins.
