Hello all! It's been ages since I've posted, but I'm still lurking. I keep checking for news of Book 5, because if anyone is going to get the latest news it's going to be here!

I was wondering if anyone knew if MWT's books are available in languages other than English? I thought that rereading The Thief in French would be a great way to practice and build vocabulary. But, seeing as the French Amazon only had MWT's books in English, I suspect that it hasn't been translated yet...

Thanks!

German

I love the idea of practicing a language by reading foreign translations of beloved books! Kudos to you!

I believe that yes, the books have been translated into several other languages. I have QoA in Japanese, from when MWT gave away foreign editions at a book signing--and she had a whole bunch of different ones, but I can't for the life of me recall now which languages. (Though I remember liking all of the different covers.) A quick search of her websites didn't reveal anything, but I know we've discussed this here at Sounis before, so hopefully someone can shed some light on whereabouts to find that info... Good luck!

I own the first three in German, and am slowly making my way through Der Gebieter (KoA) -- it's really fun, and I'm learning a lot about German conventions for fantasy/historical fiction (for example, they use an archaic du/Ihr distinction for formal and familiar usage instead of the modern du/Sie.)

I tried posing links, but they got my comment marked as spam; so I'll just note that by searching for "Megan Whalen Turner" on French and German Amazon, it looks like the series has also been translated into Turkish and Polish.

Iirc, lots of the Lois McMaster Bujold books are coming out in French, in fresh new translations.

If you like mysteries, I know Agatha Christie's readily available in French.
