Earlier in the book Sophos described Akretensh as "saturnine." It's not a common word, so I looked it up and here's that.
1. sluggish in temperament; gloomy; taciturn. 2. suffering from lead poisoning, as a person.
Lead? Guess what Sophos's bullets were made out of?
