But oh, my god I was so head over heals for Costis in TAT. I realized that it was so BALANCING to get to finally see Costis as the skilled and competent and cunning soldier and expert survivalist that he is. And also so "strong, steady, and strapping." Those muscles. I am queer AF... I am usually not drawn in by traditional displays of masculinity and yet I am drawn by Costis's alone because of who I know him to be from KoA. I think one of my most favorite Costis moments is how he demonstrates himself to be "the most eloquent non-speaker Kamet has ever witnessed," when he convinces the caravan leader to take Kamet on as an "extra guard" who's "good with a sword" and who also "needs a sword." with a slight glance over his shoulder at the other employers. with an elaborate shrug of his shoulder....
And then my other favorite part is where Costis makes himself some friends, gets himself "significantly in debt" and in doing so figures out a way to get connected with a "money trader of lesser morals" to trade away Kamet's slave chain..... God in a completely different way he's almost as conniving and scheming as Eugenides. He's brilliant.
I was somewhat lukewarm about Costis in KoA
