Yes! I enjoy this reviewer's understanding of the series and of mwt's strengths, particularly her writing style. I think I used to miss how much her prose contributes to the impact of the stories.
If Dunnett’s writing is a landslide, Turner’s is the hand-cut retaining wall at Delphi that has stood for more than two thousand six hundred years.
2600 years? Isn't that the amount of time we had to wait for this book? And is that a retaining wall composed of hand cuts?
Funny that you should use your Ravenclaw userpic, as I was halfway through reading this review when something (I'm not sure what) prompted me to start mentally sorting all the QT characters into Hogwarts houses.
Okay, I'm intrigued... Gen is obviously the Slythiest of Slytherins :) Eddis would be Hufflepuff, and Sophos Gryffindor, since he rises to daring, nerve and chivalry [er, the latter not to ambassadors?]. The Magus is a Ravenclaw [yay!], and Pol, who was singularly free of ambition, joins Eddis in Hufflepuff. Kamet I think would also be Ravenclaw, given his poetry. Ambiades, like Gen, is Slytherin. But where Costis and Irene?
I'd place both Gen and Irene in Slytherin, as both are cunning and certainly ambitious, in their own ways. (Doesn't necessarily have to mean they're using those traits for ill.)
I'd place Sophos in Hufflepuff. (But then I might just be wanting to claim him for my own house. Ha!) He's "loyal" to his friends and "unafraid of toil" when it comes to shoveling dirt and building retaining walls! He may have to adopt some Gryffindor traits, though. Eddis is obviously in Hufflepuff as well.
I agree with Magus = Ravenclaw, Pol = Hufflepuff, Kamet = Slytherin (though part of me wants to put him in Hufflepuff just because he's so cute).
I'm going to call Gryffindor for Costis. Daring? Check. Nerve? Check. Chivalry? I can see it. Also, he punched Gen in the face for being a little brat, and that's definitely how a Gryffindor would land themselves in detention, which is basically the plot of KoA.
Teleus and the Minister of War... probably Gryffindors as well. I think Relius might be a Slytherin. Until we know more about Heiro, I'm going to guess Ravenclaw, because she's clearly very clever.
If you're a Hufflepuff, did you ever realise Han Solo is a Hufflepuff too?!? He's loyal, hard-working and, though he tries SO hard to (sort-of) hide it, caring too! You're welcome, for we Ravenclaws get Obi-Wan and Yoda XD Ye-es, sorry Slytherin ... Palpatine it is ;D [Skywalkers = Gryffindor, but that doesn't need saying, really, does it?]
You're quite right about Costis - punching the king in the face is EXACTLY what a Gryffindor would do XD Which was kind of why I put Sophos in there too, given the knocking-Gen-down in ACoK :)
I have nothing to add to this delightful, in-depth discussion because I'm not the Harry Potter nerd expert that you two are. But I enjoyed this thread exceedingly.

In that case, Eddis might be a Gryffindor at heart, too. All that scuffling with her cousins prior to having to adopt some decorum as Queen. And she still walks like a soldier.
Then again, the "not all of us need to be throwing inkpots" line is 10 points for Hufflepuff.
