King of Attolia ah-ha moment

I have been working my way through the Queen's Thief books via audio book and am currently listening to KoA. I had gotten to the point where Irene asked Eugenides if he was telling the truth about the sand in his food and the snake in his bed and asks why he hadn't said anything, he said "I don't want the kitchens purged, or the guards." And then the light bulb came on. Of course he doesn't want the kitchens purged, he had made friends with many of the people there when he pretended to be a servant there but we don't find that out until Thick as Thieves!
