We often talk about OT (off topic) things here on [livejournal.com profile] sounis, which in this case, means anything that was not written by MWT. During the chat tonight, we talked about branching out a little and discussing other series we love, in light of QT having wrapped up last year. The first contender for this is pretty obvious, being a series most of us have read and remember fondly.

So, so, so... Introducing our first non-QT read of the While She Knits Book Club (it's in the title, so I'm sure you have already guessed it) The Squire's Tales by Gerald Morris. There is a lot of crossover between the ST and QT fandoms, so it's likely most of you have already read this series, but in case you haven't, here's a little about it.

The Squire's Tales is an Arthurian series consisting of ten books that were written during the 90s and the early 2000s. Books one, two, and nine focus on the titular character, Terence, the squire of one of King Arthur's famous knights, while the others focus on different characters as they retell the myths. What makes these books different is their extreme sensibility and humorous approach to the myths. There is much lampshading and Monty Python-esque making fun of the more absurd elements of the myths, all while still having great character-driven moments and depth. Check out the summaries I wrote for them HERE.

We're starting with reading the first book, The Squire's Tale. The chat to discuss it will be held on Sunday, May 16th at 6pm CT in the Conspiracy Room. Be there or be a clotpoll! If all goes well, we will continue to read and discuss the rest of the series, and maybe some other series as well!

Happy questing reading! I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.
