Someone sent me this link.  You have to scroll down a bit and then you can read Patricia C. Wrede and others talk about the "effing brilliant" writing in King of Attolia.

Also, letting the reader tease out some bit for themselves (or at least *think* they're teasing it out for themselves) makes them feel clever, which gives them warm fuzzy feelings about your story.

*grins and wonders to what extent this applies to Megan's fans*

A very large extent, probably. :)

Amen. It's the damnedest thing I've ever read. I think she
made a pact with the writer's equivalent of Eugenides' god.

What a lovely way of putting it. Interesting thread Checkers, thanks for posting it.

I am fascinated by the different ways in which the dance scene in KoA can be interpreted.

Oh, I love Patricia C. Wrede; it's interesting to hear favorite authors referring to each other. XD Thank you for the link!

Thanks for posting the link. What struck me was the generosity of the commenters. It took *time* and thought to post those comments. Wrede appears to be as nice as her books.

Oh, and he doesn't know it yet, but I am so going to marry John Green.

Oh well. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. Life is like that sometimes.

: )

Glad to hear you are having such fun! Have you learned any cool new bits of information? Scored any great deals? Gathered any more autographs to add to your Strange Authors collection?

Fascinating. I'm a huge Wrede fan as well, so that's really interesting.... should I be knowing who Brian Scott is, though?

I am so incredibly glad I just checked out all of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles for my youngest sister to read, and that she's enjoying them. Patricia C. Wrede is just too cool.

Also, way to have OMG MINDBLOWING EXPLANATIONZ that I totally should've gotten, but didn't. That bit with the river? So subtle, so maybe even subconscious, so JAW-DROPPINGLY AMAZING. *wants to be able to make good analyses like that*

I didn't realize the thread went for pages and pages. The entire river bit never occured to me.

except ... the reason Gen didn't send the Undersecretary to the Navy to hell was because Attolia broke his tension with the offer of a wine glass, not because he reined himself in; in the jail scene I thought he was reacting to the jailor and his (Gen's) own demons, not something to do with Attolia. And Gen showed restraint simply because he was growing up.

Then again ... maybe it was because Teleus and Relius were important to Attolia that he reined himself in. Good point.

He also, however much he rages, really, really hates killing people, so he was horrified at himself for being tempted.

Hey, I did leave you with dignity. The only reason I asked/squeed about it was because you are two of the coolest people I've met online and it's so frickin cool you got to meet. If I didn't say about the riding crop, I'm not going to say about your undying love for John Green. For clarification, I didn't say about the riding crop.

And Legottolia was a work of genius. Everyone loves it. It shows a perfect balance with your inner child and outer reprobate.

Besides, she'd probably tease me about the whole knitting thing.

It's fun being a reprobate. *lots of HUGS*
