Wow, it's been almost a week since this community heard from me! Can you believe? *laughs at own joke pitifully*

This is really just an idea thrown out there. I can't bury it in an active comment thread for kudos at first, like last time. Since it's pretty quiet today. ^_^ Also, I don't know who our gatekeeper/Mod Extraordinaires are, exactly, and whether they'd like me to ask first.

What do you think of having a weekly Open Topic Day? Or, more specifically, a weekly opportunity to discuss unThievish books in the context of that common ground?

See, I was part of a forum for Austen fans that had boards for each of the books (and their adaptations), Austen stuff in general, and then one about books at large. It was rather cool to see what other fans of Austen (a much WIDER group, actually) were reading, what they thought, etc. There was always other people with thoughts on them. I'm imagining it would be fun to do posts of recommendations, etc. for each other.
C'mon. Do I have some librarians behind me?

(I've always wanted to ask the Sutcliffe fans here what books of hers I should read next, for example.)

If not, well, I would love to have some book-friending. My LJ is almost totally about my writing and reading (as my more friends-geared blog is on another system where my friends are). Feel free to drop by!

Hello, one of the mods here. I think it's a lovely idea, but it's already something we seem to do quite a bit in 'The Conspiracy Room' and in active comment threads. I think that may have been one of the reasons so many of us wander off to 'The Conspiracy Room' actually, the chance to discuss other things (and books, quite often).

That said, it might be nice to do it here in Sounis too. I'm not sure there'd be enough to sustain it every week - perhaps every other week to start with? We could always give it a go and see if it takes off.

I should also mention that we've already done a post of recommendations, and it can be found in the communities memories (linked to on the profile page) or here (http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/76784.html). It might be interesting to do another one though, and I'm sure that people have more recommendations. It really depends on what everyone else thinks.

Do feel free to drop by 'The Conspiracy Room' and chat about books anytime though, whether we decide to do this or not.

You all usually know what I'm reading at any given time. *points to icon* I like it when the icon sparks a discussion about the book. Sounisians are some of the best-read (most well-read?) people around.

Though I think it's important that the focus here stays on the Gen books, I'd love to participate in a regular discussion of other books. Since Chatzy seems to be out (and we do discuss books quite a bit there) there might be a couple of ways to do it.

You could do a regular post here, as you said. Do you see it as posts like, "It's Friday, so what are you all reading?" Or, organized in a different way? It might make sense to keep it to a day a week, rather than just allow lots of random posts about other books. You might want to call it something that's the same all the time, as Emerald does with the chat notices. Like, "booktalk" or something much more clever.

Or, would it make more sense to have a seperate place that would just be for the random posts about other books? We could begin another community, like the ones dannybailey (http://community.livejournal.com/queensthief_fic/) ane mycenaeth (http://community.livejournal.com/themegaron/) did. Then people could post to it whenever they wanted.

I think the first idea might work best. There are almost 200 members of Sounis now, and most read lots of books and have this community on their friends' list already. A seperate community might find it harder to catch on.

I'd be in favor of giving the book discussion a try.

I like talking about books.

I'm apt to be reading the same one over a month or more, just because that's how my life shakes out these days, but I think a "snapshot" approach of the comm would be fun.

Friday might be a good day - they tend to be slow post days.

I think this is a fantastic idea--it also might help us out with getting more lurkers to talk, and for the people who don't do the chat, it gives them a chance to get on all the yummy book talk that goes down in there.

I'm glad you made this suggestion--it was still lingering in the back of my head. :-)

So far I like The Dark Is Risng very much, though I'm not too far into it, being the Slowest Reader Ever nowdays.

Ooh, I know someone who would love King of Shadows from the sound of it.

Off topic, but I thought Peggy would find this here easier than at the original post:

I found another out-and-out lie in Thief, when Gen says "He broke my arm" and then admits (to us) that that was a big, fat lie. Unfortunately, I just lost the page and can't find it, but I swear it was there a minute ago!

Megan is whining shocked, simply shocked, her fickle readers would turn to other authors while waiting for new stories about Gen.

"oh woe. woe is me. my readers are giving up. they are going to go off to read OTHER PEOPLE'S books. Traitors! feckless, disloyal children with no concept of delayed gratification! don't they realize that when they've spent -- i dunno, eight? nine-- years without a book to read they'll be so happy to get mine that they won't care what's in it? think how happy they would be if they just sat around being bored until then."

"eight? nine-- years without a book to read" ... OK, so now it's me who is Shocked! Simply Shocked! ... anyway, she suggested the following titles for the post:

"While the wait goes on" or
"What else we're reading" or
"Why isn't Megan done yet?"

I suggest "What else we're reading during the seemingly endless wait for Megan to finish the next book *pokes Megan* "

I just read The King of Attolia this week. Three times. And I'm sure there are several things I still don't quite understand about what was going on. In fact, I KNOW there are some things I didn't understand. But, anyway... I was just looking around online and found this community. I was THRILLED because the site I would normally go to to discuss books (Readerville.com) is kinda... slowing down, and I never did any more than lurk there anyway. And I've really been wanting to talk about KoA because... it's really good!

Not only that, but there are a whole lotta good books out there I'd like to discuss too ;)

So I know that *I'd* really love to discuss books every week/couple weeks/month/whatever.

That said, I'll just... leave. *hides*

Welcome! There was a great discussion (though it's a couple of years old now, I think it's still there) on The Thief and QofA on Readerville. That whole site has really died lately, I agree.

If you want to poke around at some older posts, go to the main Sounis page, find where it says "Links" then click on "search Sounis tags." If you click on "King of Attolia" you can wade through past comments.

If there are things you want to discuss about King, create a new post! Everyone loves discussing and no one minds a bit if the topics are ones that have been talked about before. We have to do something for the next eight years while Megan knits.

Ooh, friendly peoples. *waves happily* I actually read the whole R'ville discussion on the Thief and Queen of Attolia the other day, but the thread was so very old, and I so very rarely post anyway, I didn't really want to post there, so looked elsewhere to talk about the books, and found this community. :D And now I have an urge to re-read the Thief and Queen of Attolia, because I read those back in May. I didn't get KoA immiediately because I actually, eerm, lost the copy of QoA I'd checked out from the library, and to punish myself I told myself that I wouldn't get KoA until I found it and returned it. To make a long story short, QoA is still lost, but I just had to read the next book. This is the first time I can remember actually totally completely losing a library book, I'm usually pretty careful. (I've misplaced them before, but not so that I can't find them for months after they're due...)
And none of you wanted to know all that, but you get to anyway.

Hee! I didn't think of that. *looks around suspiciously* that probably IS what happened. And if I was missing earrings, I wouldnt notice, because I pretty much never, ever wear them. 'Fraid I'm not a jewelry person. *shrugs*

I've been looking around the community obsessively over the last couple days. (I wanted to get over my Harry Potter obsession, as it was annoying/scaring everyone, including me. KoA got me over it by replacing it. *is obsessed and still scaring/annoying everyone*) I love you all already! There are other fans of the Temeraire books here? And Enders Game? And Robin McKinley? And... and... all the best books ever? *hugs to you all* This modest proposal MUST be put into action. And now I'm hyper because I'm so excited. *bounces up and down in chair*
