Two emails from Megan:

Subject:  A Plan!

On Wednesday August 1, I will be in Niantic, CT
I plan to stop at 3:30 p.m.  at The Book Barn

Locations:
The Book Barn
41 West Main St.
Niantic, CT 06357

(860) 739-5715

I will be driving up from Philadelphia so I see potential here
for World Class Failure to be on time.  I will call the Book Barn
and let them know if I am going to be late.  You can check in with
them when you arrive.  If you send me a phone number, I can
try to call you directly.  I'll have the entire family with me, so my
attention may not be undivided.  I'lll probably hang out for
an hour or so and then press on for Mystic Seaport.

On Friday Evening, I will be in Boston at the
Harvard Coop.
They are open until ten pm.  I thought I would shoot for 8 o'clock,
We can move it a little earlier, but I will be driving up from
Naragansett that day, and two people asked if the meeting
could be later in the day rather than earlier.

This isn't carved in stone.  We can talk about changes in the
comments, and I will ask checkers or peggy to update this
post as we amend the schedule.   I am sorry
njlibrarian, I will wave as we drive through NJ.  I promise I will
come back some day; I want to see the new library in Princeton.

Followed by this:

Subject:  well, it was a plan

just read the comments that protested the friday meet at harvard
coop.  it opens at nine am, so it is just possible that I could meet
then if it  works out better for people.

megan

Note this part:  We can talk about changes in the  comments

Comment below, folks, and we'll come up with an updated plan.  Hopefully you all weren't joking when you offered to babysit. :)

Megan,

When I was about 10 y.o. and visiting Mystic Seaport, there was a very old man sewing sails with a huge curved needle and gently chatting away with us. He was so interesting, I wanted to go to sea. I hope there is such an old man waiting to talk to your kids.

You are noble to attempt to coordinate all this visiting, and if I were not in the middle of summer reading season/writing workshop/construction grant research/etc. at our library, I would hop on I90 to join the visit. Come to the upper Hudson Valley or western Mass. someday, please! Or should I ask, what would coax you into such a trip?

This is the Harvard Coop in Harvard Square, Cambridge, right? Not one of the little satelites in Boston?

But I don't think I will make it, the husband works on Saturdays and I expect to be standing at the Cambridge Little League field watching son #3's team in the trophy round.

And an FYI, TAKE THE T Red Line. Parking is a true pain in the square.

If you haven't been to the Book Barn in Niantic it is a wonderful maze of outbuildings full of books and gardens and cats. I am feeling a bit anxious about standing around by myself wondering if I am in the wrong part of the complex and so, to anyone else who is going to be there--would you like to email me off list so we can discuss recognizing each other? -- ccwtaylor@gmail.com.

schedule, what schedule?

Hello everyone,

The people who couldn't make it on Friday night, can't make it on Saturday morning either. So I am up in the air about whether to be at the Harvard Coop on Friday Evening at 8:00 pm
or Saturday Morning at 9:00 am.

Would any of you like to cast a vote?

I leave my reliable internet access tomorrow at noon. I may be able to connect later, but if we could get this carved into stone earlier, it would be better, I think.

Yes, the Coop I am thinking of is supposed to be right there in Harvard Square clearly visible when you come up out of whatever they call the underground mass transit system in Boston. Philia swears the coop has a great big "H" on a sign out front, and you can't miss it.

Of course, before that, Philia said it had "Coop" in big letters on the sign. Then she changed her mind. Maybe we could get independent verification for non-locals?

Also, the building itself says "Harvard Cooperative Society," if that helps. But then, I am unreliable.

The Harvard Coop is at 1400 Massachusetts Ave in Harvard Square and the doorway is big and old and recessed with pillars. Kids books are downstairs.

Via the T (Boston mass transit system), you want to take the Red Line to Harvard Square and take the main exit toward Mass Ave. The Coop is right across the street. There is a big parking garage at the Alewife Station at the northern end of the line.

If you're desperate to drive, there are also parking lots near the square. Just be prepared to spend a fortune.

Either time is wonderful.

Who is going, or am I going to look like a dork waving my little MWT flag alone?
