Today's the day!

What have you been reading? Do you recommend it?

If you have a lot to say, especially with comparisons to the Thief books, you can post yourself. If not, we'll be at play in the comments here!

And I'll be going first...

I liked them too, for that same reason, and was really torn between them as the story went on. I always thought Steerpike was the main character for most of the book, so it was kind of morally backwards for me -- I thought the Groans were "the man" he was fighting against XD;;

Have you read Titus Alone? Once he gets out of Gormenghast, he actually becomes a little more interesting...but I agree, Peake does seem to use him as the window through which everything is seen, and little more.

I actually disliked Titus Alone intensely -- it was then that I realized I not only found Titus boring at best and irritating at worst, but that without the baroque setting of Gormenghast, there was nothing particular I liked about the story Peake was telling either. Also, Peake was dying of a fatal brain disease at the time he wrote the third book, which explains a lot, I think.

I usually just tell people to buy some Kleenex for the end of Book Two and skip the third book. :)

And yes, the Groans were totally The Man. Although Gertrude did become a little bit awesome by the end of Book Two, which I hadn't expected of her.
