Fully developed world, fun, suspenseful. I think those are all reasons. I hate it when people dis the Harry Potter books. Though they aren't the most well-written books and are WAY too long, a lot of people feel like the characters are their friends and read the books over and over.

I LOVE the detail, and funny conversations, and just all of it. My least favorite was the tightly edited HP6, which was more like reading a timeline of events than a novel.
