Blame it on Rowana
Sep. 14th, 2007 08:50 pmThere I was, innocently posting bad poetry in Chatzy as I celebrated finally finishing giving library orientation, and Rowana told me to post it to Sounis.
So: Join me in writing poems to Gen! To get you started, here is
Eugenides! Eugenides!
Delightfully designed to please
He'd charm the birds out of the trees!
His sufferings rouse our sympathies
But let's face facts; it's true that he's
Annoying as a hive of bees.
We love him for his wicked wit
Sheeplike baas and just a bit
Of gallows humor mixed with it.
A King who plays the bungling fool
Whom others think to make their tool
Who grudgingly is forced to rule.
The Queen can't love him more than we;
We wallow in books one, two, three;
Anticipate the fourth with glee.
Oh, Gen, my darling, Gen, my sweet
I simply worship at your feet!
Do tell me, when shall we two meet?
Okay, you aren't really real
But what the heck; the way I feel
That really isn't a big deal.
My fondness for you's wide and deep;
You make my poor heart dance and leap;
Oh, yes, I love you quite a heap!

The Queen can't love him more than we;
We wallow in books one, two, three;
Anticipate the fourth with glee. Definitely!
I had some terrible Gen haiku somewhere, I'll have to go look for them.

Teases and captures the
Hand of a queen.
Sinistradextrously
Stealing and spying, he's
Theif, King, and gentleman,
Maker of schemes.
(and damned attractive with it)

the one-handed goat foot
we all adore
Eugenides, Eugenides
smarter than all the Medes
we've only got three books
but we want four. (and more!)
There's a reason I'm a painter, not a poet.

Now this one. I know sinister in latin is on the left. Dexterous in English means skillful and competent with the hands (though in latin it means right side). Is the word your own invention? I couldn't find a definition for it anywhere.

Date: 9/16/07 04:08 am (UTC)Yep, I cobbled that one together (from latin for left and for competant with the hands, like you said) when I realized there was not, in fact, a six-syllable double dactyl sprung word meaning "left-handed".
I didn't realize that dext- was the latin for right, though. So it's sort of "left-right-handed" which wasn't quite what I was going for. Whoops.
Crap. Now I'll have to think up a better one.

It seemed a good idea back then.
But since, I've learned the price to pay:
I've lost an earring yesterday.

Date: 9/20/07 03:42 am (UTC)By the way, I think 'sinistradextrous' may work after all - don't give up hope - after all, he's ambidextrous, so the adjacent placement works...plus, seriously, it's such a Gen word. I think he'd like it; it's a paradox.
