From Megan Whalen Turner:

On Friday October 26, I will be in the lobby of the Holiday Inn
Midtown at 280 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M5S at 4:00 pm local time meeting
Sounisians whose initials include the letter J. Other letters are welcome.
We will probably duck into the Holdiay Inn's Daily Express Cafe, but at the
discretion of the letters organizing this, namely JP, we might go somewhere
else nearby.

If so, we will leave a note to delayed Sounisian's with the concierge.

So, who all's going?

My initials are JP and I can't come. :(

Clearly Megan needs to come to North Carolina sometime instead of always gadding about in the north. The north is, admittedly, a much better place to be, but not somewhere I can get to just at present.

No, CLEARLY Megan needs to travel more West-ish, instead of hanging out over there in the East-ish places.

Clearly we all need a way to congregate somewhere nice free of charge! Maybe the airlines would give us free flight vouchers if we explained our need and asked nicely.

I like that idea. I bet megan could write a persuasive note for us. she's good like that.

oh yeah! I was thinking sunny beaches and tide pools, but Greece works too :D

We could maybe get megan to give us the Gen Tour.

Florida, of course! Sunny beaches and Willow-land! :D (Ironically, there are no willows in Willow-land.)

California! Sunny beaches to the west, trees to the north, or if you want, there's the desert in the south. It's perfect. ;)

I'm also a J who can't come. :(

I also concur that she needs to come south. Texas, to be exact (and during the school year, so I'll be there).

I wish I could go, but alas, I don't think I can get transportation. I could take the train, but a) trains cost money, and b) taking the train alone to Toronto = me getting lost and possibly mugged by a homeless jedi and thrown off the top of the CN Tower.

De-lurking to say, I'd like to come, but not only are my initials not J at all, but there is no J anywhere in my name. My initials are F. But other initials are welcome, yes?

does talking like that come from spending too much time in libraries?

Grrrrrr...

I know a bunch of people in Toronto, and I think one of them is even going to the conference. But I am not in Toronto. This makes me sad.

I concur with Rose. Chicago? Minneapolis? There's a whole coven of YA authors in Minneapolis.

Although, that being said, Mycenae would be pretty fab too.

I could go if it were Minneapolis... that would be pretty sweet, actually.

Conference papers

Please, please, Megan, beg them to make the papers available to the rest of us! May we read yours and your husband's at the very least?

Because I really did consider coming but suddenly I was swimming in veterinary bills AND someone backed into my moving vehicle... crunchy moment. And The Literary Mind is harder for this uninitiated to absorb than for those who have been able to discuss it over time and at length.

May I add, you are very generous with your time for Sounisians! Guess they are nice people.

Correction

Pullman link appears to reference an earlier conference, not the one in Toronto.

It was the same talk, though, as nearly as I can tell.
