Hiya there! First post and all that jazz. I'm seventeen, English, and I read the books a few years ago, loved them, and have lurked here for a while watching all you awesomely intelligent people discuss layers of subtext I'd barely considered. Anyway, I have a question - i'm thinking of buying 'Thief' as a present for a friend; does anyone know what the 'extras' advertised on the cover of this edition entail? I seem to remember hearing about a short story - is that it?

Thanks!

A fellow Brit! Welcome. :)

I'm afraid I don't know what the extras advertised are. I know the extras advertised on KoA consist of a short story at the back - the short story in relation to 'The Thief' that you may have heard of was published in a Disney Magazine a while ago - I usually email off a scan that Fabricalalchemist uploaded for us to anyone who asks for it. I don't think it was ever published with the actual book - the scan I have is illustrated and in magazine format.

The extras, If I'm remembering correctly (I may not be), include things such as MWT's inspiration for the books, books recommended my MWT, etc. There isn't a short story in that edition of the Thief like there is in KoA.

And welcome! I'm one of those less-brilliant people here who is awed by how deeply these people analyze the books... we could make a club.

Sweet! Its a club. I'll be president. There are several other titles open. Queen, Chairman, Commander-in-Chief, Most-Very-Honored-Head-Person.... or anything you want, really. Take your pick.

Hello! Welcome to Sounis. =D

The short story is at the end of the KoA paperback edition I guess. I've yet to read it though(which is really annoying).

Welcome! As Hikki said, that edition of Thief a longer author's note with a description of Gen's world, and a nice article about older books that people don't read as much anymore.
