Japanese versions part 1, The Thief
Oct. 28th, 2007 12:25 pmIn keeping with The Rules Of Three, after being poked three times over the past several months about the Japanese versions of these books, I ordered them through amazon.co.jp.
It was An Adventure. Even though I chose the English version of the site, very little was really in English. I wasn't entirely sure what I was getting until the box was delivered (about three days later, OMG!). Thank heavens they have a roman numeral featured in the title, so you can have an idea of which book is which. They are beautiful!!!!! Since the posts are quite image heavy, I will break them down by book.

The Thief

The Thief and Queen of Attolia are printed on heavy paper, and stitched together (not glued). The books are very heavy for their size. Each book comes with a bookmark.
Inside the cover is the Title page [now remember, these books read back to front, right to left, bottom to top ... I found myself constantly holding them upside down and feeling very confused XD ]

Lots of earrings are featured! There is a picture on vellum:

and a real live Table of Contents

Note how each chapter has an image associated with it. Each chapter has a beautiful drawing in the margin on the first page. The chapter image is printed on each page of the chapter. For example, the first two pages of chapter 6:

Chapter 6 is where they are all cleaning up in the stream, and Gen tidies his hair afterwards with Ambiade's comb. It's fun figuring out what happens in each chapter from the icon image, even though I find the Japanese to be completely incomprehensible.
