Just as I was peering out the door, humming “Oh oh the Wells Fargo wagon is a-comin’ down the street, oh please let it be for me,” the Amazon van pulled up and delivered my precious book.

It’s beautiful! And the drawing on the endpapers made me smile. But no spoilers, so you’ll have to see for yourselves.

Months ago, in the Conspiracy Room chats, [livejournal.com profile] semperlego and I discovered that we live relatively close to one another. We've met several times since then at this lovely restaurant/bakery/coffee shop that has a beautiful outdoor seating area. in May, Semper was off to England and Scotland, and I was bound for Italy. We each had fantastic--and long awaited, many times delayed--vacations and, or course, those vacations involved hunting around for Queen's Thief books. So, when we met last week, we had gifts for one another!

I'm now the proud owner of The Thief with its beautiful new UK cover, and Semper has the gorgeous recent Italian Thief.  And, hey, if you're ever in North Carolina, let me know and maybe we can all chat over a scone and chai latte.

Now, on to recent reading! Tell me what you've been reading lately. Semper and I exchanged the titles of lots of books the other wasn't familiar with. How about you??

Check out today's article on the United By Pop website for a new interview with MWT and her views of some of the different book covers. The new UK covers look beautiful. Oh, and there's a very small tidbit/teaser about the progress of the Disney movie adaptation of The Thief. Definitely something to look forward to!

You can read the article here.

Someone was asking about Paul O. Zelinsky's excellent artwork in RotT, and also about the map on the inside covers, since the ebook really doesn't include clear images of them. I took pictures of both, for those who want to see.

It's not great quality but I couldn't find the pictures online and I couldn't bear to squish my beautiful hardback book in the scanner.

See the map here.

I just finished my reread of ACoK and was musing about dear, dear Sophos and his...

Beard.

He's gone from a sweet, niave boy to a ruthless man, fighting battles and shooting ambassadors. Well, those thoughts reminded me of the kerfluffle about the book cover, when ACoK first was released in 2010. Remember?

Deirdre's post about Vince Natale's cover art, including the Orlando Bloom Sophos.

Tiegirl's Absolutely Accurate Description of the Back-and-Forth Between Sounis and Greenwillow.

Oh, and that made me think of Emily B. Martin and her musings about Eugenides and his beard. Really, so many references to beards--I haven't even mentioned Nahuserish and his forked red beard.

Excited to see The Thief featured in Book Page's July issue. Sharing because I thought the reviewer did a great job of recommending it without giving too much away (a notoriously tricky task)!

Who else is enjoying/looking forward to rereading the series before Return of the Thief arrives in October?

I don't post often, but I have a question and I am wondering what you all think: on the cover of TaT, their are FIVE crowns.  I have differing theories for four of the crowns, but not five.  At least, the only one I can come up with...well, I don't like it.  (And yes, while I don't own the newest edition of the books with the new covers, I realize that there is a different crown on each book.) So, who/which country/what do you think each of them represent?  Any ideas?

Welcome to the first week of QT Reflections, reprobates! If you’re just joining us, catch up HERE.

Also, we are still in need of volunteers to help lead the Thick as Thieves re-read. I need at least two people to help [livejournal.com profile] checkers65477 and I out. The deadline to sign up is February 3rd. Links to previous re-reads are available below if you need some good examples, and please remember that your opening post doesn’t have to be too terribly complicated or long. Just a few opening talking points, if that’s all you want to do, is great.

At the risk of being controversial, this is probably my favorite cover yet--the striking color, the volcano, the elephant, the gold lettering. This cover promises that RoT will wrap up a lot of loose ends, but it also seems to contain some clues that deserve discussing.

All of the previous covers in this set have details referencing events in the individual stories. Granted, some are more vague than others (I’m looking at you, heron in the tree on the KoA cover.) and some are symbolic. Thus, the covers are subtle enough to not spoil anything, but still good at giving hints of what’s to come.

BEWARE OF SUMMARY SPOILERS!

Me obsessing over details... )

Okay, thoughts and opinions?

So, Checkers and I felt we were getting a tad disorganized with our discussions of TaT and overwhelming ourselves, so here's a little order in the chaos. Below are all current Sounis spoiler-y threads for discussing TaT. I will add new ones as we go along. Feel free to start your own thread. Just remember to hide spoilers under an LJ-cut with a clear warning.

This thread will remain "sticky" (at the top) for a few weeks or so, giving everyone a chance to read the book and comment.

SPOILERS! LOOK AWAY! )

Today at Barnes & Noble...

Seeing these beauties in person has officially won me over to the new covers! Pretty sure this one’s my favorite.

(Shout-out to Checkers for inspiring the userpic.)

Question: does this make the wait better, or worse? !!!
Megan, can you hurry them up a little before all we reprobates expire of old age and much longing?!

When your favorite series doesn't have any merchandise to hoard...

My UK editions arrived in the mail today. At last, I have them all! For now...

Well, my Saturday's pretty well planned out, meaning I'm likely to just stand in front of my bookshelves, admiring this collection for hours.

Less than 200 days to go before we can get our hands on the next book!
[identity profile] heiros-acumen.livejournal.com
I bought copies of The Thief and The King of Attolia today at a used book store (who would sell these masterpieces?!) to flesh out my favorite books display. I'd really like 3 full sets; one set to loan out (to entice new reprobates to the group), one set signed by our beloved MWT which no one is allowed to touch!, and a third set just for me. How many sets do you guys have?
