I was wondering this during my most recent re-read of The Thief. What is your favorite moment(s) in any of the books that are better the second time you read them? MWT has such a gloriously twisty mind that there many, many times I find something I didn't notice last time. The one I just noticed is from the Thief-

"Tell me," I said, "or I'll get up and strangle you with one hand."

Big Question to MWT if she reads this- From the beginning, did you plan to have Gen lose his hand and marry Attolia? Or is my quote just randomness I invented myself?

I've wondered that myself. There seem to be some hints along the way, but that could just be hindsight. One of my favorite moments in The Thief is on page 55, when Gen shares his thoughts on soldiers and then realizes that perhaps he shouldn't have.

Although I love Queen, and King, the thing I really miss is the feeling that I'm having a conversation with Gen. He has such a snarky way of expressing himself that I can't help but laugh out loud. Having said that, one of my favorite moments in the entire series takes place in King:

"It was not a kiss between strangers, not even a kiss between a bride and groom. It was a kiss between a man and his wife, and when it was over the king closed his eyes and rested his forehead against the hollow of the queen's shoulder, like a man seeking respite, like a man reaching home at the end of the day."

I LOVE that moment between them.

Bored-Nothing-to-Read?

Try the Doctrine of Labyrinths series by Sarah Monette. The titles are:
1. Melusine
2. The virtu
3. The Mirador
and the last book will be published in March, I think. Very good stories narrated by a crazy wizard and his street-thief half-brother. Amazing writing.

Loved the first two, still haven't been able to get my hands on The Mirador. Was it as good as the others?

Of course it did, because Miles Is Love. :D

In answer to the other part of your question, I didn't appreciate the part in Thief when Gen is in the water temple until the second time I read it. I was in too big a hurry and visualized it so much better the second time. And I hadn't read any Rosemary Sutcliff, so I didn't get the tribute part with the emerald ring until later.
