Mar. 9th, 2006 05:23 pmSo, I gave Iris the book today. I'll bully him into actually reading it next.
Iris says the suggestions he's had are alternate endings, (though he won't be able to manage a huge amount of variation he can try for some of that), and putting the view in the first person, which he hopes to do for some levels.
He's planning a game with several levels. At the moment, it's only going to feature storyline from The Thief, (in answer to
cherryblosomjen's question), so pre-hook. :) Maybe I can nudge him into doing some follow ups later on. It's going to be a small game, and 2D for most of the levels. Nothing big or fancy I'm afraid. He says he'd appreciate suggestions for the different levels, or alternate endings. Whew. :)
So post any and all suggestions in a comment under this post. In other news, the people from the choir are being awkward about schedules, though I promise a recording of the anthem (remember that?) when I can actually group them all around a microphone. And finally, a little note to say that due to approaching exams, I might not be around as much. I am still reading everything, I promise, but until the end of this month at the earliest, or mid-June at the latest, I'm going to be bogged down with endless studying. :) An excuse and apology in advance for any comments which I forget to answer.
Long live the King!

Date: 3/10/06 05:08 pm (UTC)As far as the game goes -- what about a level showing Gen stealing the Sounis's seal from his room? It could have Gen weaving through the palace, avoiding guards, passing by the Magus' office and entering a secret doorway into the Kings chamber (the main entry might be guarded). Then he could have to tip toe through the room(making too much noise would alert the guard outside the door, although probably not the King himself since he's been known to sleep like a log), maybe he could be capable of looking in various places (bookshelf, under the rug...) but the seal is actually hidden in king's desk, so you have to open a drawer, grab the prize and escape through the window onto the balcony, up the roof (mayube if you tried to climb directly down the balcony you'd be spotted, whereas if you went up the roof first, you wouldn't). Then there could be a little non playable movie showing Gen bragging to a barkeep about his success and subsequently being arrested and thrown in prison...
Then onto the next level? Just an idea. :)

Date: 3/10/06 05:09 pm (UTC)Gen wakes up in the wee hours of the morning, hungry, and remembers that he's tied to the bed with Pol hovering above him. The first objective would be to unlatch the chain and leave the room withuot Pol waking (and smacking poor Gen upside the head and tying him down in a less comfortable position). If Gen is able to succesfully make his way out of the room he starts off to find the kitchen. He sneaks past the dining room (and eaves drops or briefly spies on Ambiades flirting with the maiden who in the book gives Gen a hair-tie. If Gen lingers too long -- he gets caught, but if he continues on he finds the kitchen. The third part of his mission might be to actually steel some food from the baker/cook, who is busy going from one end of the kitchen to the next, knife in hand. He's got to be careful not to scare her or she might poke that knife in unappetizing places. After he's successfully eaten his fill (maybe he runs into the pantry while the cook's back is turned and eats up the goodies there) we see a non playable movie of Gen, smiling contentedly and back in bed, with his chain conveniently placed where it should, and Pol none the wiser.
Again, just an idea.

Date: 3/10/06 06:48 pm (UTC)I actually just got him to read this suggestion and he's started sounding out ideas about cut scenes, like you mentioned at the end, already. We both love the cook. :) I've drawn a bad little sketch of her looking like a charging crusader. I'll get him to read through your other comment in a little while.
I've just realised, there's a lot to discuss abut this game. I'll arrange a livechat for next Friday so that Iris can talk to you guys directly.
Keep the suggestions coming! And thanks,

Date: 3/12/06 04:18 pm (UTC)How is he liking the book so far, by the way?
Also, I'm very sad about this but -- I don't see how I can make it to the chat Friday. I have an important appointment during the day and at night there's a rehearsal dinner (at my house) for the wedding I'm in (Saturday).
