So I found this on youtube a while ago and thought it might be relevant to our interests :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRpiBvwKX6c ;

Doesn't this song practically describe Gen or is that just me? Its called "The villain I appear to be". And the video fits too! Just watch it.

Here are the lyrics: https://connorspiotto.bandcamp.com/releases ;

(I don't put them into the post itself because I have no idea if this might be a copyright issue.)

(Also, shotout to the magus for providing me with an icon idea : )

Yes, I've finally finished that elusive TaT playlist I've been talking about for like... two years. hangs head in shame

Anyhow, I hope it's worth the wait, as I've made not only one but three new playlists! Now with new and improved listen-ability! There are some old favorites in here, but also plenty of new stuff. It's been several years since I've made a playlist for these books, so there were many new songs to add.

I used Spotify to build these, but you need a subscription to listen to the songs in their entirity. I've included a link to the Spotifiy version if you do happen to have a subscription, but as I assume most of you probably do not, I've made Youtube playlists of all the songs.

If you're confused as to why I choose a particular song (some of them are for very specific parts of the books) there is a note for each song below. Enjoy!

Listen! )

Any songs you think I should add?

Marc Gunn, aka the Celtfather, one of the hardest-working musicians I know, who promotes other bands as much as [if not more than] his own, has released a free [set your own price] compilation over on bandcamp. It's a great sampler of his range of style and subject-matter.

Check it out!

Palette Swap Ninja has a whole new album for free. It's the most brilliant mash-up of "Star Wars: A New Hope" and "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"--the whole album! It's free to download here: http://www.paletteswapninja.com/2017/05/01/new-album-princess-leias-stolen-death-star-plans/ Or, you can watch the entire story via videos [with lyrics] at bit.ly/starwarsbeatles .

If anyone ever wonders what a filk con is like, check this playlist out for yourself. You can definitely see why Judi won the Pegasus award for Best Performer, though!

I've not checked all the videos, but if they show the bottom of the microphones, the small recorder on the front of the stage is mine. I'm the one in the first or second row, savoring the goodies.

I love the song Hallelujah and especially like the Rufus Wainwright version. The lyrics have always reminded me a bit of Gen.  A Rufus Wainwright song came on my phone's mix today and I glanced at the album cover and look at what I noticed:

Things that make you go Hmmm... )

(Ok, I flipped Rufus' picture and WHERE IS YOUR SWORD but still. Oh, and your wife's hand. Where is that?)

Well, hello to everyone and our Beloved Author! It's been forever since I posted anything here -- but I have a few minutes, and hopefully I haven't missed the deadline yet. So, I understand I can get four entries to the most exciting contest of the year by completing four fun and easy tasks. Here goes! The rest of this entry is under the cut (I hope! I'm the one who always had trouble with cuts.)

Subject: [LMB] 5GU music

This has been sloshing around the internet for some time, I'm sure, but
it's very like what I imagine some of those 5GU 5-voiced Temple choirs
to sound like.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yYcq1_Vxco

There's another recording of the same in a train station with acoustics
like a Cedonian stone temple. Minus the PA system and the trains, natch.

Because the [livejournal.com profile] filkferengi just had to share the love. Note: all of these albums are on bandcamp, which means you can listen to the whole thing for free before buying, if you want to. [If you run the cursor over the song title, a link to lyrics frequently appears on the right.]

Amanda Palmer did an album with her dad. The whole album's $1.

The PDX Broadsides have a new album. These folks are funny!

Emily Holbert also has some good stuff. This album includes her recording of her own song "The Maiden And The Selkie" which was so gorgeously covered by Heather Dale [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGT5lBve_v4 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om8LzIcFmbA - with lyrics]

Now, *that*'s a message we can all approve of!

Back in July, I went to Confluence & saw far too many concerts. Just in case anyone's wondering why I continue to subject myself to such excellence, here's part of why, the video of the music guest of honor:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqP6VhyAwjg

The signer & guest musicians are good, & the goh herself isn't too bad, either!

;)

This was just what I needed to transition from that post-housefilk euphoria. Folks drove in from South Carolina & Mississippi, & there was protracted skyping with the crowd from Denver. Fun!

I always absolutely loved this song; my [livejournal.com profile] deirdrej had it on an album when we were teens, but I never saw the dance that goes with it. It's cool! Observe the guy in the grey tie and the girl in the black dress. If you imagined this getting faster and faster, with flowing clothing? What do you think?

They're *so careful* not to mention filk, but we still know. Mel's a regular at GaFilk, Fencon, & North Texas Irish festival & has co-written over 65 songs with Dene Foye. The CATH cd is excellent, with lots of songs by both celtic & filk musicians.

We hung out with Mel & Chris one Tucson Book festival, & lawyerspouse was thrilled to have someone who spoke his language for a change. ;)

So, I was listening to my Pandora Fun. channel (admit it--you like them) and heard a song that made me stop and listen to the lyrics.  It's so QT!

Take a look at the lyrics:

So, despite what I’ve done, I pray to God that we can move on )
And here is a link to the song.

Anyone else have a song that just screams Queen's Thief?
