So [livejournal.com profile] jade_sabre_301 pointed out to me that I never pimped this here. But better late than never, eh?

Title: Rosmarinus
Author: [livejournal.com profile] tikki_hikki
Genre: Gen (lol), vague romance
Word Count: 1576
Rating: G
Summary: The famous "dancing under the orange trees" scene mentioned in The Queen of Attolia.
Author's Notes: Thanks to the infinitely awesome [livejournal.com profile] loquaciousquark for betaing this for me. I was partly inspired to write this by a combination of a conversation with her about the scene, and a fanart she showed me.

"Rosmarinus" means rosemary. I can has silly plant symbolism nao plz.

Dactylic hexameter is a form of meter poetry used in Greek and Latin epics. I.E., Homer, Virgil.

( There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. )
Fake LJ cut to my writing journal.

The question of the day:
What books have disturbed or challenged you?

Did the fact that they challenged you make them, in the end, more profound?

In the case of Queen of Attolia, I think the story has a lot more punch than the Thief (much as I hate to admit it; the Thief has my undying loyalty) because of the suffering it puts you through. If, by the end, you finally understand Gen and Irene, the turnaround from the betrayal at the beginning makes a real impact.
It might be cool to discuss  the smaller parts of the three books that disturbed us, why, and how they affect reading the rest of the story.

Just got my Horn Book for November-December.  King of Attolia is featured in an article called "Epic Fantasy Meets Sequel Prejudice," by Jonathan Hunt.  The basic question is whether KoA (and certain other fantasy books) stands on its own or whether it must be read as part of a series.

My question is, even if it stands on its own, how could anyone NOT run out and read the rest of the series?

I just realized that it was one year ago yesterday that I joined LJ (and Sounis). I had just finished KoA and was waiting to get my acquisitive little claws on a copy of QoA.

A whole year!

....

.... Okay, I'm ready for the fourth book now.
