If you've done a Yuletide-style exchange on AO3 before, the process should be pretty similar. If you haven't, have a look at the explanation and examples below, check out the FAQ and rules on AO3 and let me know if you have questions!

Also, please spread the word—the more, the merrier.

The signup link is here!

Quick points:

  • The tagset is massive (honestly, go us and our great ideas). Worldsentwined on Tumblr very kindly made a spreadsheet of the full tagset so you can peruse a little easier.

  • Signups are open until Wednesday, August 31 @ 10am ET.

  • You'll need an AO3 account to sign up. You can request one here if you don't already have one. We have some extra codes if the wait list is too long so please ping me if that’s the case!

  • Please read the rules before signing up so you know what you're agreeing to do

Check below the “read more” for more info on how signups work, the “optional details” field, and how to submit your Do Not Wants. Please reach out if you have questions!

Hamiathes's Gift Exchange, the AO3 fanworks exchange, is back for this year!

Some of you might remember this event, which was previously run by pendrecarc who has graciously passed it along so the exchange could be revived. The tag nominations phase is currently open through Sunday night ET, and signups to participate start this coming Monday, August 22.

You can find the FAQ on the AO3 page. I'm also posting regular updates and reminders to the Hamiathes's Gift Tumblr. If you want to nominate tags or participate in the exchange, you need an Ao3 account. Get in touch if you don't have one and would like a code to skip the processing queue for new accounts!

Here is the full timeline as it stands:
Character and relationship nominations: August 15th through the 21st at 10 PM EDT
Signups: August 22nd through 31st, closing at 10 PM ET
Assignments sent out: September 2nd
Fanworks due: October 7th at 10 PM ET
Fanworks revealed: October 14st at 10 PM ET
Artists/authors revealed: October 21st at 10 PM ET

If you have questions, feel free to reach out anywhere. I'll be most responsive on Tumblr (both asks and messages are fine) and Discord (happy to provide a link if needed), but I'll try to check the comments here regularly in case folks have questions. You can also email me at hamiathessgift@gmail.com, though this email is being checked the least frequently.

Hi! I've been meaning to pop round for awhile to propose this, but I'm shy.

I also don't know how to run a gift exchange, I was just looking at the big block of instructional text on AO3 and my eyes glazed over. However I really love gift exchanges -- remember how lively the one was right after Thick and Thieves was released?? I feel like I don't want to miss out on that momentum again, with our very last book release upon us.

+ So, first things first... [livejournal.com profile] pendrecarc are you still around/have any interest in running another exchange for us?

+ Second things second: anyone else have any interest in running an exchange for us?

+ Third things third: is there enough interest in participating to drive me to overcome my Luddite ways and figure out how to run thee exchange myself?

--> Basically I'm just looking for a show of hands of people who'd be interested in participating, keeping in mind the timing of it all; The Book drops in early October so the exchange might be encroaching on the typically busy autumn/winter holidays season.

Be blessed, friends

Stories and art are revealed! You can read and view them here.

Stop by, enjoy, and don't forget to leave feedback.

If you signed up for the exchange, you should be getting an email with a link to your gift. You can also find it by opening your AO3 page and following the Gifts link in the left-hand navigation pane on the left. Please remember to show your author or artist lots of appreciation!

Fanworks will remain anonymous until Saturday, September 1st. However, if you'd like to reply to comments on the stories or art you posted, you can go ahead--your name will be hidden until then.

I will be leaving the collection open for last-minute treats in the meantime.

The names of our artists and authors are now revealed! Check out the collection here.

Thank you all so much for participating. I’ll be in touch when it’s time to start gearing up for a 2018 round.

Remember that if you failed to turn in your assignment and did not default before the deadline, I’ll be asking you to do a make-up assignment before you sign up next year. If you have any questions about this, please contact me via gmail, where I am hamiathesmod.

See some of you at tomorrow's chat, I hope!

I used Plot Generator to write myself a Costis/Kamet fanfic. It went better that I could have possibly hoped.

For example, I think it managed to sum up Kamet's character really well:

"Kamet gulped. He glanced at his own reflection. He was an Even-tempered, Suspicious, tea drinker with small hair and tall lips. His friends saw him as a smiling, squidgy scribe. Once, he had even saved a colossal kitten that was stuck in a drain."

Intrigued? Check out the full story.

Cross-posting to lj.

Hey, everyone! Just stopping in to say I'm planning to run the second Hamiathes' Gift Exchange for fanfiction and fanart this summer.

The current plan is to do wait for the dust to settle after Thick as Thieves is released, hold nominations and signups in the second half of June, have assignments out at the beginning of July, and have gifts due in the middle of August--so six weeks to write or draw.

Any questions or concerns? I'll make more announcements as we get closer to June.

(Also, mods, any chance we can get a tag for the exchange?)

Okay, owing to the fact that I haven't drawn for years, this is a bit last minute, but here I am!

Dear Megan,

I should NOT have an ARC.

1. I've only been waiting for less than two years :)

2. Owing to the joys of time zones, I will be getting my copy of Thick as Thieves at least five hours before the rest of the reprobates. Which will (Please note, reprobates!) be plenty of time for me to read it and get on here to gloat at the rest of them ;P

Therefore, I don't need the ARC. Please, pick someone else instead. But this doesn't mean I'm going to pass up on the fun of doing clunky art ;) So, as a sort of thank you...

1. Landscape.

My very favourite of all the stories of the Gods!

2. Other Art.

Thank you! I had great fun doing these!

~Helen.

Hey, Sounis! I've been ridiculously busy IRL lately and have missed a lot of the discussion, but I'm as excited as anyone about the new book coming out in May!

I realize that's six whole months away, but I'd like to start thinking about whether to hold a 2017 edition of the Hamiathes' Gift Exchange. I was thrilled so many of you participated in 2016 and created so many new fanworks--thank you so much for all your hard work and creativity!--and I hope a second round would be just as successful.

Here's what I'm wondering--would it be best to kick off the exchange in March and finish it up in early May, a little before the fifth book comes out, as part of the lead-in to Thick as Thieves and all the discussion that's sure to follow? Or would everyone prefer that we wait until the dust has settled, kick off the exchange in June, and finish it up in August?

I could see it either way, so I'm attaching a poll to see what all of you think. If you don't have an LJ account, you can always leave a comment.

Feeling creative? Welcome to the comment fic party for the 20th anniversary celebration of "The Thief."

Rules
1: We're keeping things simple with one word prompts and short fills with no minium word count. Your prompt can be longer than one word, but please try to keep things simple, so a short fill is possible. A quote or a poem is also another good prompt method. Some examples-

Orange Trees, Gen/Irene

Hallways, Magus

Library, Sophos/Helen

As a writer, you are free to interpret these prompts anyway you wish.

HERE are five fills I did for another QT comment fic party for an example.

2: No adult content on the main thread. Please, link to your journal or another site with appropriate warnings.

3: If you post a prompt, try to fill at least one other person's prompt. All prompts may not get filled. That's okay! Fill whichever prompts you're inspired to. More than one fill for the same prompt is fine.

4. Have fun!

The collection is no longer anonymous. In addition to seeing who created each gift, you can of course still enjoy and comment on everything in the collection. (I know I still have reading to do!)

ETA: SInce we're no longer anonymous, please feel free to link to your own work or repost it on any platform of your choice!

I am tremendously grateful for all the work you put in, particularly those who signed up for pinch hits and beta-read gifts.

I also think this is is probably worth doing again. Would others be interested? I'm thinking next year, also late in the spring, though I'm very open to suggestions.

If you have feedback on how things went, positive or negative, or ideas for next year, please let me know! You can comment here, either anonymously or signed in, or email me at hamiathesmod@gmail.com if you want your feedback to be private.

I will be leaving the collection open for treats until author and artist names are revealed. That will probably be 10 PM EDT on Sunday, June 26th, but as I'll be traveling for a few days, that reveal might be delayed.

(Eeee I am so excited!)
