I come bearing fanarts!
Feb. 3rd, 2009 06:59 pmLots of good postage lately, I just had to put in my two bits as well!
The other night I was doing some gesture drawings with my roommates. (Living in an apartment full of art majors is just all kinds of awesome. You should all envy me.) A gesture drawing is just a general sketch done very quickly so you can get the general idea of the form and movement of your model. Anyway, after my roommates were done, I stuck around to doodle. My brain was still in gesture-drawing mode, so these are pretty lose, but here they are:
(These are all kind of big, I don't know how to make them smaller. Help?)
First, the most random and sketchy: Aulus, the Eddisian Nanny, resting his feet on a table. He's not big enough and the table isn't small enough. This is me, moving on to more entertaining drawings.

Next we have a quick doodle of Costis (younger version of Teleus, no sense of humor), who seems to have lost the back of his head. Sorry about that, Costis.

Dancing under the orange trees! (Remember! These are very quick doodles! Not finished drawings!)

Poor Gen. I hope you can read my handwriting...

Another of that same part, which I don't like as much but whatev...

Finally, Attolia with Gen in the back. This is right after Relius has been arrested. Pretend that Gen looks... better. And that Irene has both her hands. (Heh.)

Date: 2/4/09 02:42 am (UTC)My favourite is the first one of Gen covering his face... aw Gen *huggles*
You know something strange? There are very very few Queen's Thief fanarts out there that show Gen's stump. Actually, I can't think of any. So well done you :)
Does that say 'sneaky, speaky Gen'?!

Date: 2/4/09 04:44 am (UTC)I so totally wish I could gesture draw like that... my art teacher has us do those with charcol, so I'm not very good with lines... meh. I'm just working on that right now.
I do love the QoA ones... poor Gen. *Huggles*

Bottom line--your sketchbook is your friend! Carry it around and use it constantly if you are really serious about improving!

Date: 2/5/09 07:06 am (UTC)I love rambles, especially about art. And the gods know I've rambled a lot on here.
I've been doing a lot of work with contour lines recently, using them to express depth and shape. I've done a lot of Eddis and Attolia portraits like that... and one that I like a lot of Attolia and Gen. I should post those sometime...
Along with my vivolo and zumie inspired history doodles. Everyone in my class found those very funny, despite not having read QT, much less the lolspeak QT.

Date: 2/4/09 03:16 pm (UTC)Did you mean to only give Attolia one hand? Do you know something we dn't know about the next book?

Date: 2/4/09 09:09 pm (UTC)Yay! Fanart! The one with Attolia under the orange trees is particularly lovely. That scene has always been a favorite. And now I love you for drawing it.

Date: 2/5/09 03:15 am (UTC)And I love gesture drawings! I wish I could do them, but since I'm still struggling to get the correct proportions on a figure standing still (for costume rendering; not even real drawing), it's going to be a long time before I can do any...Back when I was dancing, my friend used to bring her sketchbook to rehearsal and do gesture drawings of the variations. They were beautiful.
Costis is pretty special too. Thanks for sharing!
