Music Revisited
Feb. 25th, 2009 09:50 pmI guess my self-professed lurker days were short lived because sifting through the archives has made me think of so many questions I want to ask. :) Ah well, I am sure you fine, friendly folks won’t mind if I mis-labeled myself a lurker. On to the post (apologies for errors in display etiquette - like how to get lyrics into another window so the entry isn't so long, I am still working out livejournal)!
I enjoyed looking over all the musical selections people had made. I have several songs I associate with characters that I wanted to share, see what everyone thought, and ask for any new ideas that people have.
The song I most associate with the books (specifically with Attolia and Gen) is ‘Power of Two’ by Indigo Girls. I can’t hear this song without thinking of them. I also can’t hear the song without going through all the emotions that I go through when I read the books. It’s quite the roller coaster. For Attolia and Relius (huge Relius fan here) I like ‘The Space Between’ by Dave Matthews Band. And for all the crap that Costis goes through he deserves a theme song and that song is ‘Hero of the Day’ by Metallica.
What about y’all? Songs for the trilogy-soon-to-be-series? Songs for specific characters? Do you prefer modern, classic, instrumental? I loved the ‘Hallelujah’ suggestion.

Power of Two by Indigo Girls
Now the parking lot is empty
Everyones gone someplace
I pick you up and in the trunk Ive packed
A cooler and a 2-day suitcase
Cause theres a place we like to drive
Way out in the country
Five miles out of the city limit were singing
And your hands upon my knee
So were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two
You know the things that I am afraid of
Im not afraid to tell
And if we ever leave a legacy
Its that we loved each other well
Cause Ive seen the shadows of so many people
Trying on the treasures of youth
But a road that fancy and fast
Ends in a fatal crash
And Im glad we got off
To tell you the truth
Cause were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two
All the shiny little trinkets of temptation
(make new friends)
Something new instead of something old
(but keep the old)
All you gotta do is scratch beneath the surface
(but remember what is gold)
And its fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold
(what is gold)
Fools gold
Now were talking about a difficult thing
And your eyes are getting wet
I took us for better and I took us for worse
Dont you ever forget it
Now the steel bars between me and a promise
Suddenly bend with ease
The closer Im bound in love to you
The closer I am to free
So were okay
Were fine
Baby Im here to stop your crying
Chase all the ghosts from your head
Im stronger than the monster beneath your bed
Smarter than the tricks played on your heart
Well look at them together then well take them apart
Adding up the total of a love thats true
Multiply life by the power of two

So, in this case: Type < lj-cut text="Power of Two by Indigo Girls" > before the lyrics. Then type < /lj-cut > after the lyrics.
(Take away the spaces after < and before >)

If you're in Rich Text Mode, select the text you want, then click on the little icon with the lines of text and then a jagged line beneath them.

Has more ideas for music
Date: 2/28/09 12:53 pm (UTC)I think, "It's All About Us" by T.a.t.u. decribes Gen's and Irene's love and agreement to work together. Some lyrics: "If they hurt you, they hurt me too. So we'll rise up, won't stop. It's all about us.That's a thing that they can't touch." and "They don't know. They can't see who we are. Fear is the enemy. Hold on tight. Hold to me, cause tonight it's all about us.".
"Evil Angel" by Breaking Benjamin serves to describe Gen's feelings of fear mixed with love for Irene. Some lyrics:...birds of feather, nothing but lies and crooked wings. I am the answer spreading the cancer. You are the face inside me. No, don't leave me to die here. Help me survive here.", "Put me to sleep evil angel. Open your wings evil angel. (...) Why can't I breath evil angel." and "I'm a believer, nothing could beat us".
These songs can be listened to on youtube if you're interested.
I liked the "Power of Two" that you posted, by the way.
