I think it will be first released in the US, because MWT is a US author (not that this means anything in the publishing world) and there had better be Gen/Irene offspring, and court speculations on their legitimacy, given how most of the Attolian the court seems to doubt there are any conjugal activities going on between the two.

Court speculations...yes I think that is likely. But do they really think Attolia could be that kind of woman? If they even try to voice out that speculation they would be accused of treason *snickers*. When the little girl (or boy) shows of his/her mad thief and gymnastic skills, they won't have a doubt who the parents are.

I don't think the court knows Irene very well at all, and there was plenty of gossip around the marriage already, so cutting heads off might be a bit harsh even for her, or else Gen might temper her anger with a bit of "but, Irene, really!"

Well, since both Greenwillow and I are based in New York... I'm going to take a risky bet and say somewhere in NYC (and hope I haven't just jinxed my chances for MWT coming here at all...)

Oooh. Whichever answer I lean toward, I somehow jerk back to its opposite! But I'm going to say....

Yes.

Reasoning: It would be a little weird (not sure why) to read about offspring from a close perspective like that through which we read the first three books. But if my assumption about Gen being absent for most of KoC (LOVE that we have a new acronym, by the way!) is correct, then it wouldn't be particularly strange or weird to hear about a firstborn the way Sophos does-- ostensibly just a vague piece of gossip about a distant king. Then, when we finally do see Gen, this wouldn't be anything new for him or us, as the offspring would have become part of life/ThiefCanon already.

I expect it to come up sometime, but maybe not in this book. Come on. Heirs have got to be an issue. The Attolians are going to start giving them funny looks. More than they are already, I mean. I'm sure Megan can do it without the story or characters suffering.

That's a very kind offer, thank you! No NZ booksellers are showing any signs of knowledge that CoK is coming out, (although the city library is getting pretty excited) but it's early days yet, so I'll do my best with them and with Amazon before bugging you :D

EC Q #2: I think Irene might be pregnant or announce a pregnancy by the end. I don't think the court will wonder about the father. If we're a few months or even a year down the road from KoA I think she and Gen will have developed into an obvious couple and the court will have transformed to fit that new reality. I suspect much of the court might soon be extremely devoted to the royals. (Which will help when Erondites plots with the Medes against them -- grrrr).
