It seems that disaster, sadly, can often befall us whilst too engrossed in Gen's world to pay attention to more mundane matters. But - and I hesitate to type this - there are some dangers, my friends, that spring FROM too much MWT-reading.
For example:
You know you've had too much Gen/Attolia/MWT when...
- There's pimento all over your face from trying to balance olives on your nose, a la Archimedes at the circus last year
- The looming decision of whether to buy CoK in hardback or paperback is causing you sleepless nights
- You buy clothes in bright, clashing colours to look like Gen/You buy red dresses to look like Attolia
- You're tempted to use quotes from TT,QoA and KoA in school/university essays
- You thank people with 'Be blessed in your endeavours'
- When you hear a song for the first time, you listen out for possible Queen's Thief parallels
- 90% of what you write on LJ is Gen-related
- When you see the word/abbreviation 'gen' in a non-Queen's Thief context, you're confused
- You can quote pages from the books verbatim (TLE, I am looking at YOU)

Date: 7/5/09 02:59 am (UTC)Your only vacation thoughts seem to revolve upon how many Sounisians you could meet up with at any particular destination.
Your fascination with all things Greek is only matched by your fascination with all things Patagonian.
Somehow your biggest goal has become getting to New Zealand.

Date: 7/5/09 03:17 am (UTC)You are in the process of carefully marking and cross-referencing your copies of the books. You got this idea from a brilliant fellow Sounisian.
You know exactly where on the shelves the books are in the bookstore/library and sometimes go there just to smile at them, and perhaps place them more prominently.
Your roommates can quote passages verbatim, even though you haven't yet gotten them all to read the books yet. (I'm working on it, though.)

Date: 7/5/09 03:20 am (UTC)You knew exactly what this was refering to, and could flip to the passage refered to in a matter of seconds... or simply rattle it off from memory.

Date: 7/5/09 03:18 am (UTC)Also...when you hear the words general, generousity, nitrogen and etc. you immediately think of a thief. And when you use a question mark you think of hooks. And when a song about a dog and cat is being played on the radio, you think of your favorite thief/queen pairing.
One last, you buy a fake set of ruby jewelry then you put on a red dress, tie your hair with a red scrunchie and twirl in front of the mirror singing 'I'm a pretty princess'
And of course the already mentioned 90% LJ thing, the 'be blessed in your endeavors' situation and the listening for QT parallels in songs (even if I've already heard them a million times)
And when almost all your LJ icons are related to the series.

Date: 7/5/09 04:50 am (UTC)I have been doing this LIKE CRAZY the last few weeks! It's ridiculous. I'm determined to build up an entire playlist for QT (mostly Gen/Attolia).
Also, the one about the abbreviation "gen". Haha. It always makes me think of our Gen now. I'm ruined!

Date: 7/5/09 05:57 am (UTC)You know you've had too much MWT when...
Your siblings leave the room every time you broach the subject of getting them to read it.
You come across random actors in TV shows and movies and begin auditioning them in your mind.
You feel like putting a helpful/threatening post-it-note over the space in your local bookstore where Queen's Thief aught to be, but is not.
You've had friendships threatened when certain people "don't get into" the earlier parts of TT, put it down, and refuse to acknowledge that it will get better and keep reading, NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU TELL THEM TO.
You have "Megan Whalen Turner" saved as a search on your Twitter page and check it regularly to see if people are saying anything.
(I also totally do the song thing, by the way!)

-"You're tempted to use quotes from TT, QoA and KoA in school/university essays."
For me it is in ever day speech, but... yeah...
-"When you see the word/abbreviation 'gen' in a non-Queen's Thief context, you're confused."
Really? I thought that was just me.
-"When you hear a song for the first time, you listen out for possible Queen's Thief parallels."
Yeah, I do that.
-"90% of what you write on LJ is Gen-related."
Since History_Haven was founded, it's more like 70% but... pretty close.

Date: 7/5/09 05:07 pm (UTC)Btw, I can really only quote dialogue. For example, I can tell you this:
"what do you want me to say, then?"
"tell me you won't cut out my lying tongue, tell me you won't blind me, you won't drive red hot wires into my ears"
"I love your eyes, I love your ears, and I love every single one of your rediculous lies"
"your are a treasure beyond any price"
But I can't for the life of me tell you what comes in between. Something about a shaky breath? forgetting that anyone else in the world could possibly be listening? dangit.
Here are some of mine:
1) the realization that there is a paragraph you have not analyzed straight to the moon causes you both a fit of fangirlish joy and a panic attack, at the same time.
2) Your school binders are entirely filled with doodles of Gen, Irene, and goats.

Date: 7/5/09 05:29 pm (UTC)Looking through catalogs or junk mail ads, you forget what you were shopping for and find yourself deciding on whether the models would be suitable to play Gen.
You make it very clear that for your birthday you want a plane ticket to wherever MWT will be signing books when CoK is released.
You make a KoA glossary and then keep revising it and adding to it.
You keep two sets of books, one to loan out (no spoilers in the notes in the margins) and one to thoroughly study and cross reference. And you think about buying a third set just to redo the cross referencing more carefully and more beautifully. And color coded.
Instead of getting a song stuck in your head, you spend half the day with a line from the book stuck in your head. And you don't mind at all.
Most of your passwords are phrases from the books with the pages they are found on. You make long lists of phrases and pages so that next time you need to choose a password you have one handy. And, you have no trouble remembering these long convoluted passwords.

You dream about Gen world, fantasize.
You put your marks at stake while rereading the books, knowing an exam is within 2 days (I learned not to do that again)
You check this LJ comm. on your phone constantly as its bookmark #1 on the list
You sit at your university lecture and search for things related to Gen on the laptop for every single class OR you attempt to listen and look at the powerpoint slides however the prof. words turn into Gen world and so does the screen
You faint the day you finally see MWT

Date: 7/6/09 04:19 am (UTC)-You act completely nonchalant on LJ when Megan makes a comment to you, but then call family members and friends to scream in their ear about "GUESS WHO JUST TALKED TO ME ON LJ?!!!!!!!"
-You are sick and tired of Jeffrey Eugenides and wish you could eradicate his name from the internet.
-Gen is the last thing you think of at night and the first thing you think of in the morning.

Date: 7/6/09 11:58 am (UTC)1) You rush through all your work just to go online and read the posts on Sounis.
2) You pretend to be married/in a relationship with one of the characters. Mine would be Dite. I know what you're going to say Lady Jane, we don't have ANY relationship yet. But trust me, he'll come around. By the way, how is the backlog going?
3) All you can talk about with friends is your recent role-play chat about being stuck in the Medean dungeon. I pity Yuki, she has to deal with all my blabbering.
4) You talk to your friends about your KoA marital status. Yuki had to listen to me doing this too...I was choosing between Stenides, Ornon, Dite, Aulus and Boagus, I also considered being Gen's mistress, but he would never have one. And though Yuki isn't part of the comm she says she claims the Sophos' mistress title. One day I am going to get her to join here...
