Over at the [livejournal.com profile] enchantedinkpot our very own [personal profile] rj_anderson  has posted an interview with author Patricia C. Wrede.  Ms. Wrede is a big fan of the Attolia books.  You can read the interview here.

An older interview mentions Megan's books, too.

Which then reminded me of this discussion from Ms. Wrede about how writers move their stories forward.  It's filled with terrific examples from The King of Attolia.

(rj, you look lovely in your photo.  Oh, and I'm sorry I clicked on "join" when I meant to click on "watch".  oopsie.)

Thank you, Checkers! It was a fun interview to do and I was particularly delighted when Pat mentioned MWT's books -- especially as they both were gracious enough to blurb mine! It's like this big circle-thingy of mutual appreciation. :D

I love it when people love these books. Especially people whose recommendation might actually get a bunch of people to read them.

Megan, we all know you're brilliant, and doing our best to spread the word. Its just, some peoples word has a bit more bearing than others. Which is a good thing :D

Which Miles book do I start with?

Ooh, I can answer this one now!

Start with Shards of Honour, and follow it with Barrayar. If you can't find those two in separate editions, look for the omnibus edition Cordelia's Honour.

This page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorkosigan_Saga has the books listed in reading order, but if you scroll down, beware of the summary spoilers!

Oh wow, Patricia C. Wrede has been a favorite author of mine since I was a kid- I had no idea she was also a fan of the Attolia books. It's not surprising, now that I think about it, but still. Just one of those "that's so cool!" moments for me, haha. Thanks for the link!

Me too! and that discussion was really interesting! I don't always have the words to describe techniques and I love to see them so well-described by others.

Pat Wrede is especially good at that sort of thing. You may want to search the archives of sf.arts.written. She used to have a world-building handout on the SFWA website that was 20+ pages of questions to answer & think about.

Quite a coincidence really I just finished reading 'Snow White and Rose Red.' It's just so nice that other authors like MWT's work too.

I have been remiss: I have never read Patricia Wrede or RJ Anderson. Where do I start?

And I did like all of these links, so thanks so much, Chex! I learned even more about the books. I love Sounis...

Re Pat Wrede -- if you enjoy the idea of a sort of fractured fairy tale adventure that pokes gentle fun at the cliches of that particular genre, try the Enchanted Forest Chronicles (a.k.a. the Dragons books); if you're into Regency or Victorian historical whodunnits with bonus magic, try the Mairelon duology or the Kate and Cecy series; and if you prefer the more classic, epic, other-world fantasy, look up some of her old Lyra books like The Raven Ring or The Seven Towers.

As for me, I only have one book so far, the story of a fierce young faery who must fight to save her dying people while concealing her forbidden friendship with a human -- it's known as Knife in the UK/Aus/NZ and Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter in North America and the Philippines.

Thanks for the interest!
