Jul. 22nd, 2009 12:43 pmI only recently read the Queen's Thief series, and found this great community! And while I'm off to read more of the discussions, I'll leave you with a piece of fanart.

Date: 7/22/09 02:43 pm (UTC)I love the title and the symbolism it implies. I suppose once Gen decided to start doing things again (like stealing the magus, lol), he must have used most of the time he spent "hiding in his room" to practice his skills.
The ribs and collarbones are fantastic, and I really like the spareness of the colors, the way the shadow/edge of background is brighter than the figure in the foreground. The details are wonderful, too -- Gen looks exhilarated with his success, as well he might. And are those bits of paper and a quill strewn around, too? I can imagine him getting frustrated with the left-handed writing practice and turning to a handstand for a break!
I wonder if there is a muse among the Eddisian gods? If so, I hope she will visit you again. ;)

Exactly what I thought! And we know he can do a onehanded handstand from KoA. So I thought he must have had to practise in order to learn that skill again.
Thank you for pointing out the things you liked! And yes, those are papers and a quill, and I thought exactly the same as you. When frustrated with his (lack of?) progress in writing some physical exercise might feel good. :)
Thank you for leaving a comment. It means a lot!

Date: 7/22/09 03:53 pm (UTC)Both for the drawing, and for the idea, which I've been wondering about myself for a long time!!!!!!!!! Your skills are masterful, and YAY GEN THE ACROBAT!!! *loves*
I love your use of watercolors (I stick with pencils, my paintings skills are FAIL) - and your anatomy is quite nice. Plus, you've added a nice sense of grace here. XD I like it!
I always had this image of him re-training himself like that, and YOU JUST DREW IT AND THAT IS SO MUCH WIN! XD

Date: 7/22/09 04:11 pm (UTC)Really great work. From someone who has next to zero drawing talent.
Love your icon, too. I noticed it before. It's so expressive, which is amazing since you can't even see the face. You have a real ability to make your drawings "alive".
Are you on deviant art? I'd love to see your gallery.

Date: 7/22/09 05:16 pm (UTC)What an inspired title and idea: I love the suggestion of total frustration with the torn, scatttered parchment, and how he's resorted to doing something physical and something that is still so very much him. I can see the strength and steel in that one arm, which explains how it's so muscular by KoA, and the pose of the legs is like the nimble agileness of a dancer, adjusting his weight for finding perfect balance again. In several ways, of course.
The use of colour is wonderful, too, and I must put a word in for the slightly long and dishevelled hair, which looks great, even upside down! As do those trousers...
You've done a really wonderful job with this. Let's hope your muse(s) inspire many more. ;)

Date: 7/22/09 07:15 pm (UTC)Thank you so much! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has spent time imagining Gen in the process of retraining... ;) And thank you also for the kind words about the technical side of things - it's good to know that it is all coming together!
GEN IS AN ACROBAT AND THAT IS WHAT MAKES HIM

I do have a dA, but it's been ages since I updated the gallery. You can find almost all my art on my lj via the different tags (http://hrymfaxe.livejournal.com/tag/)

Date: 7/22/09 07:27 pm (UTC)Thank you! I intend to. It seems like a very nice community indeed!
And thank you also for your kind words about the painting! And yes, our mind can indeed gloss things over as long as it isn't thrust into our view, but I'm glad it doesn't overpower the focus, that is Gen and his grace, despite it all. :D

Date: 7/22/09 07:30 pm (UTC)Gen is marvelous, so it is only fitting that he should be portrayed that way. ;) Thanks!
