Hello, community. I'm a new member (named Newbia...hahaha...) and I'm very pleased to have found more MWT fans! :D

So one thing that I often enjoy thinking about after I've read a book series is who would play the characters in a movie. Who do you guys think would play Gen, Irene, and so on? I think that Angelina Jolie would play Attolia very well; she would be the right mix of beautiful and oh my god mommy help me terrifying. Plus, she already played a terrifying Greek (well, Macedonian) queen in Alexander. I can't think of anyone who could play Eugenides, except possibly Robert Downey Jr. if he magically took 20 years off his age.

Ever since the movie The Fall, the only person I see as Gen is Lee Pace. If only he was shorter.



But maybe also James McAvoy could play him.

Both of those men are wonderful, and I'm loving the eye candy...but I just can't see them as Gen. Maybe James McAvoy, if he wasn't a magnificently blue eyed Scot, since Gen is supposed to be a little but darker of coloring. But he does have charm and charisma and I think he can be quite mischievous when he wants to be.

I don't know if any actors would be able live up to everyone's expectations. Hollywood should just make an animated film.

Yesterday I was at a theater, and before the "feature presentation" there was this preview: http://www.astroboy-themovie.com/ .(teaser two) It is an animated movie called "Astro boy." (and it seems very weird.) The reason I'm bringing it up is because from near the middle to the end of the preview(the only good part to it, in my opinion), appears this boy. Somehow, the voice (of the kid, not the narrator) reminds me of a young Gen. (especially the prankish, fun-loving, laughing side of him) In short, the voice of the movie's main character reminds me of a nine-year-old Gen, and the facial expressions would fit into an animated version of Gen pulling off a theft successfully. (but that's it. sorry.) (and I took too long.)(sorry again.)

Yes, I know what "Astro Boy" is, Abi. That was a Japanese anime series which was as well known in their country as Micky Mouse is in America. I see they are making an American movie for it. I wonder how that will go...

I beleive his own words are when asked, "They're bear-claws. Emergency rations." Make sure you imagine him saying that with tone of offense. It's his idea of a joke. In Japan, they call bear-claws cat's-claws, and his code name in the underworld is the "Black Cat", which is the name of the manga.

Mostly, the buttons shaped like cat's-claws are just part of his weird taste in fashion. He has a personality 90% similar to Gen. He eats absolutely ever thing in site, acts like an idiot even though he is incredible strong, and he's really AWESOME. I think Gen would look, something like him, consequently. At least, have some of the same expressions.

Hmmm since Lady Jane already posted that link of the recent discussion, may I suggest you look under the actors tab? There are a LOT more posts about it. Warning though, most discussions here get quite...out of hand *coughs coughs Gen's underwear?*

But anyway, welcome. I'm sure you'll love it here, most of us are friendly really, don't let anything convince you otherwise...just kidding. We're all very good fangirls...unless you bring up the topic of getting married to Costis...that would bring up quite the discussion.

Wow, really good suggestions! JGL is a little old but he doesn't really look it, and he is awesome. And short. And the actress (I am unfamiliar with her) is a beauty, huh?

Alas, JGL is no longer short. But I've always pictured him as Gen when I read the books, and I shall continue to!

Ahhh, Firefly love! :D I'm sorry, but if Morena Baccarin played Irene, I wouldn't be able to stop thinking of her as a whore Companion. Magically-De-Aged Nathan Fillion as Gen would be wonderful, though. XD

Ohhhhh, that's where I've seen her! And I made a mistake (no, GET OUT!). Joseph G-L is actually 5'10 so not that short I guess. Nathan Fillion, hmmm, maybe Teleus?

Aw, but I thought she played regal disdain so well! :D I don't know, she's probably a little short though. Maybe if they make her stand on boxes the entire time, and shoot with lots of forced perspective...

Nathan Fillion might make a good Teleus. I've never seen him play a stiff military man though. Maybe he could play Aris.

I have pretty strong visuals in my head for many of the characters, and I haven't seen much in the way of a close fit. Aside from the fact that Sean Connery's voice has always been in my head for the Magus, I have a really hard time coming up with Hollywood actors for the roles. Mostly, the characters have too much character in ways that don't fit the conventional ideal physical types we mostly see in the movies.

The closest I can think of for Gen right now is Noah Hathaway a bit older than he was when he played Atreyu in The Neverending Story (but younger than he is now), and that might just be the hair, and he's still lighter-skinned than I imagine.
